Best treadmill for these criteria...

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I'm a first time poster, shopping for a treadmill. Which treadmills should I be considering for my criteria?

My goals include the following:

  • Injury prevention
  • Fat loss
  • Long term health span

My goals DO NOT include training for any race or any athletic event. I want to use the treadmill purely for fat loss and long term health.

Must haves:

  • Ability to read heart rate from Apple Watch or arm band
  • Ability to automatically adjust speed/incline based on heart rate zones
  • Good shock absorption in the deck, for injury prevention. Horizon’s three-zone cushioning sounds appealing, but I’d like to learn about others as well.
  • 3.0 - 4.0 HP motor
  • Belt should be at least 20” wide, 22”preferred
  • Belt should be at least 60” long
  • Max speed of at least 10mph
  • Max incline of 15%
  • Warranty: 5+ years on parts, 2+years on labor, 5+ years on motor

Don’t need, but ok to have:

  • A Touchscreen. It’s ok to have, but a low-tech interface is fine for me.
  • Adjustable deck cushioning. I’ll only ever use one setting.
  • Ability to decline. I likely won't use that.

More about me:

  • I'm 5'9", 60 years old, 180 lbs
  • I'll be the only user of the treadmill
  • I'll be using it 4-5 times per week

Thanks for your help, I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,
Bill

Hi Bill, thanks for your question! Based on the information that you've given us, I would check out the Horizon 7.4 AT, Horizon 7.8 AT, and the NordicTrack Commercial 1750. All of these treadmills fit into this criteria. The Horizon treadmills have nice cushioning in the deck and lower-tech consoles. The 1750 has slightly softer cushioning, so a little more shock absorption, and a 14" touch screen. For the NordicTrack 1750, you will have to pay a monthly subscription for iFit which is the training app available on the touch screen, in order to use the heart rate training feature with a compatible heart rate tracker. The heart rate training program comes built-in on the Horizon treadmills.

I've included links to our reviews of each of these treadmills, so you can learn more about them. The NordicTrack 1750 review will be updated soon to include information and images of the new 2022 model, currently, this is the 2021 model. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is excellent information -- thank you Sydney! I'll look out for the updated review of the 1750. Meanwhile, I'll try to find a store in my area that has all three, so I can compare them in person.
