In-depth ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill Review: Testing & Analysis
Dimensions/Storability
We consider the ProForm Pro 2000 to be a compact treadmill for running. This means that this isn’t the smallest treadmill we’ve tested, and we certainly have tested more compact models for walking. When it comes to being able to handle most users for running though, the Pro 2000 checks this box. Its dimensions when unfolded are 77.3” L x 35.3” W x 59.6” H.
Along with this amount of floor space that the Pro 2000 occupies, you should factor in a few extra feet surrounding the treadmill, especially at the rear of the deck to use it safely. You’ll want some space in the back to fold and unfold the deck, too.
To fold the deck, you lift the back end and push it up towards the console until it locks into place. The deck features a hydraulic system that kicks in when you lift the deck so you don’t have to lift its entire weight. To unfold, you press your foot against the vertical metal bar at the bottom of the deck. Once unlocked, the deck slowly lowers to the floor on its own. This allows most people to be able to fold and unfold the deck with ease.
Once folded, the ProForm Pro 2000 can be moved around when needed. It weighs around 262 lbs when it’s delivered in the box, so it’s a substantial weight. Most people should be able to tip back the deck when it’s folded to engage the transport wheels under the frame to move it.
In addition to floor space, ceiling height is also important to consider. The step-up height of the deck when it’s at 0% is around 10” high from the floor to the top of the side rails along the deck. For a 6-foot-tall runner, we recommend having at least an 8.5-foot high ceiling to utilize this treadmill’s features. For those who are shorter or taller than this, check out our article to determine the appropriate ceiling height for you when using the Pro 2000.
Onboard Workouts & Apps
Onboard workouts and subscription training content are commonly found on all types of treadmills. Subscription platforms are very popular and found on most fitness equipment. The ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill is enabled with iFIT which is a popular training platform. Here’s what to expect with iFIT on the Pro 2000, and what you get without iFIT.
iFIT
iFIT comes enabled on ProForm’s fitness equipment. It is available to stream directly from the Pro 2000’s 10” touch screen. If you’re new to iFIT, a free 30-day trial is included with the Pro 2000. iFIT is $39 per month. If you purchase a 1, 2, or 3-year membership ahead of time with the ProForm Pro 2000 though, you can cut down on the monthly cost a little bit. 1-year is $396 which is $33 per month. 2-years is $699 which is around $29 per month. 3-years is $899 which is around $25 per month.
Here’s what is included with iFIT.
iFIT has an expansive library of fitness classes led by over 180 instructors. There are over 17,000 workouts available to take on-demand whenever you want. Each class features an instructor or two who lead you through a structured workout. There are workouts filmed in professional studios. These have a camera that points at the instructor while they provide guidance and motivation. They’re modeled after in-person studio fitness classes.
The outdoor classes are what sets iFIT apart. There are workouts filmed all around the world. From Costa Rica and Germany to California and Egypt, you can walk, jog, hike, and run in cities and remote areas all over from the comfort of the Pro 2000’s deck.
The camera follows the trainer, making it feel like you’re being guided on a tour. Pans of the surrounding landscapes are also shown throughout the classes to show you even more of the locations.
You can also explore areas all over the world on your own by creating your own routes using the Google Maps feature. This feature utilizes Google Maps so you can draw your own route in any part of the world. During your workout, Google Images pop up to show you the area as you go.
In every workout, your metrics are displayed at the top to track your progress. Music is also available to listen to in the background of each iFIT workout. The music isn’t integrated into any of the classes, unfortunately. There are stations that consist of different genres and each has preselected playlists of songs. The music seems to be updated fairly regularly and offers a good variety, but it would be nice to have some of the indoor workouts with music integrated into them.
Overall, iFIT is definitely worth it when it comes to subscription training content to use at home. Paying for a monthly subscription is kind of like paying a gym membership which can provide some extra accountability to help ensure you use the ProForm Pro 2000 regularly. There are also mat classes like yoga, strength training, and meditation that can be taken in addition to all of the treadmill workouts. You can also take iFIT on the go by using the app on your phone or smart TV.
Onboard Workouts
iFIT isn’t required to be used on the Pro 2000 Treadmill. Even though we highly recommend checking it out, it isn’t for everyone. Without iFIT, you can use the manual mode. This doesn’t even require a wifi connection to use. Manual mode is also available to use in iFIT with a subscription. Manual mode lets you do your own thing and adjust the treadmill as you go.
There is also a free featured iFIT workout available to take without a membership to iFIT. This gives you a preview of what using the platform is like.
Note: Netflix streaming and streaming from other 3rd-party apps isn’t available on the ProForm Pro 2000. You can’t stream outside content or browse the internet. iFIT is the only content available to stream on this treadmill.
Console
The console is pretty straightforward to use on the ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill. It has everything you need. The main component of the console is the 10” touch screen. This is where you stream iFIT and track your workouts and metrics. It’s also how you view the treadmill’s current speed and incline settings.
The 10” screen isn’t the largest touch screen, but this size is on par with other treadmills in the Pro 2000’s price range. It’s the same size as the Sole F80 and NordicTrack 1250. It should be easy enough for most people to see. It isn’t very adjustable, beyond being able to slightly tilt the screen up and down. The 1250 and NordicTrack 1750, in comparison, have screens that pivot to either side. These treadmills also stream iFIT, so this feature makes using the screens for off-the-treadmill iFIT workout classes a little more convenient than the Pro 2000.
Below the screen, there are numbered adjustment buttons. The top row is for adjusting the incline, and the bottom row is for the speed in mph. When you press 6 on the top row, for instance, the inclines up to 6%. When you press 4 on the bottom row the speed adjusts to 6 mph. You can also press two of the numbered speed buttons back to back to adjust to more specific increments. For example, pressing 7 and 8 will adjust the speed to 7.8 mph.
Next to the start and stop buttons toward the bottom of the console are more speed and incline adjustment buttons. The incline buttons adjust the grade of the deck by 0.5% and the speed adjust by 0.1 mph.
With a subscription to iFIT, the ProForm Pro 2000 also automatically adjusts in every workout. The AutoAdjust technology adjusts the speed and incline of the treadmill to match the trainer’s cues and the terrain of the workout (if it’s filmed outside). iFIT also takes into account your prior workouts so it can suggest speed ranges that align with your fitness level. You can bypass this and adjust the Pro 2000 at any time, but this is a nice feature.
The speakers are front-facing on either side of the console. They are Bluetooth-enabled to pair with Bluetooth headphones. You can’t connect your phone or tablet to them though to play your own content through them. The speakers are clear and offer plenty of volume when streaming iFIT. In iFIT, you can adjust the volume to hear more or less of the instructor’s voice and the music.
The fan is at the very bottom of the console. It is positioned a little low and it’s in a fixed position so you can’t adjust the airflow. It does have multiple settings for the airflow so you can adjust how strong the breeze is. I’m 5’1” and it hits my neck. It’s a little low for taller folks.
There are two cupholders to hold your water bottle. There isn’t an attached device rack at the top, like the Sole F80, but there is a ledge below the touch screen to place your phone or tablet to stream content from your own device.
Build Quality
Now let’s dive into the build quality and construction portion of this ProForm Pro 2000 review. The ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill is designed to be used in homes. It’s comparable to other folding home treadmills on the market. With its size, build materials, motor, and deck length, this treadmill is great for moderate amounts of use and most people.
For its weight limit, the Pro 2000 handles users up to 300 lbs. This means that it can handle people up to this weight. This is the standard weight limit that we see on treadmills from ProForm and NordicTrack. If you need a higher weight limit we recommend checking out models from Sole and Horizon.
Frame
The frame supports the base of the treadmill and is positioned under the front of the deck. From there, two steel uprights extend up to attach to the console and hold it in place.
When running on the Pro 2000, it does shake a little bit. This is pretty typical for most home treadmills, especially ones with touch screens. It isn’t distracting or bothersome while using the Pro 2000. The handles are covered in a textured plastic that doesn’t feel slippery. The side handles extend on either side of the deck and the front handle is positioned just under the console in between the fan to offer two sides to grip when you need extra balance and support. I prefer the front handle to be one continuous piece like the NordicTrack 1750 and Sole F80, but this handle is easy and convenient to grab when needed.
Motor
The Pro 2000 has a 3.25 CHP motor. This is comparable to other treadmills in its class. With this size of motor, we recommend the Pro 2000 for light to moderate walking, jogging, hiking, and running. It’s a good option if you’re looking to run around 5-10 miles per day. If you want to run more than that or train for an event like a marathon, the ProForm Pro 9000, NordicTrack 1750, and Sole F80 have a bit more motor power for that level of use.
The ProForm Pro 2000 goes up to 12 mph. This is a 5-minute mile running pace. This speed range is pretty standard for home treadmills and should be enough speed for most people to run, if not, sprint.
The 12% incline gets the posterior muscles of the legs activated, while the -3% decline works the front muscles in the legs.
The motor overall is pretty quiet. The incline makes a bit of extra noise on top of the drive motor when the treadmill is adjusting the grade of the deck.
Deck
The deck is what makes the ProForm Pro 2000 compact, yet great for running. It is 20” wide and 60” long. This length is what we’ve found to be supportive of all running strides. This means, most walkers and runners should have plenty of room on the Pro 2000.
If you want a larger folding treadmill, then check out the Horizon 7.4 AT, Sole F80, and Bowflex Treadmill 10.
The deck cushioning, which is the amount of give in the deck when your feet land on it while walking and running, is forgiving without feeling bouncy. We’ve found in our testing that some brands offer more deck cushion and shock absorption than others. NordicTrack has some of the softest cushioning, while Sole has some of the firmest. ProForm is right around in the middle, making the Pro 2000 a good choice for most people.
As a good reference, you’ll probably want a greater amount of deck cushioning if you experience joint sensitivity while running. If you are a road runner though, you’ll probably want a firmly cushioned deck. I think most people will find the ProForm Pro 2000 to be comfortable and nicely cushioned.
Overall, for a compact treadmill for running, the Pro 2000 is a stable treadmill with nice features. Its size pairs well with all of its training capabilities, construction quality, and deck cushioning. This makes it a great treadmill for people who don’t have a ton of space to dedicate in their homes but still want to train regularly.
Warranty
ProForm includes their standard warranty with the Pro 2000 Treadmill. The 10-year frame warranty helps to instill confidence in the build. This is also included with 2-year parts and a 1-year labor warranty. Having at least 2 people for the set-up of the Pro 2000 is a good idea.
Should You Buy The ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill
We recommend the ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill for people who want to run on a treadmill but are short on space in their home. The Pro 2000 is a solid treadmill for moderate amounts of running. It has a compact design compared to other folding treadmills, yet it can handle people up to 300 lbs and all stride lengths.
One aspect that makes the Pro 2000 stand apart is streaming from iFIT on the 10” touch screen. iFIT offers thousands of trainer-led workouts filmed indoors and out, so you’ll never feel bored. A membership to iFIT is also beneficial if you love trainer-led content, and/or if you’re someone who needs a bit of extra motivation while you’re on the treadmill. It’s also great if you are a beginner looking to get into a good fitness routine.
The folding deck, 3.25 CHP motor, and incline and decline range make the ProForm Pro 2000 our pick as the best compact treadmill on the market. Check it out if these features align with your needs and goals.
ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill Review FAQs / Q&As
Does the ProForm Pro 2000 work without iFIT?
Yes, you can use the ProForm Pro 2000 without a subscription to iFIT. Without iFIT, you can access manual mode and a featured iFIT workout. Manual mode doesn’t require wifi to use. The featured iFIT workout and the full library of iFIT (if you’re subscribed) require an internet connection. With all of the workout classes and training features that iFIT has to offer, we recommend checking it out on the Pro 2000. It can definitely make for an immersive training experience.
How much does the ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill weigh?
The ProForm Pro 2000 weighs 262 lbs when it is delivered in the box. It’s a good idea to have at least 2 people for assembly.
What is the difference between the ProForm Pro 2000 and Pro 9000?
The ProForm Pro 9000 has a larger motor and touch screen. The Pro 9000 is the premium treadmill in ProForm’s lineup, so it is also priced higher. Both treadmills are the same size, but if you want a larger 22” touch screen for streaming iFIT versus the 10” screen on the Pro 2000, check out the Pro 9000. The Pro 2000 is lower in price, so it’s a good choice if you want to save some money.

Our ProForm Pro 2000 review isn’t paid. ProForm sent us the treadmill but we were not paid to compile this review. All of the information above reflects our team’s experience using the Pro 2000. Suggest me the best treadmill to lose weight
The best treadmill to help you lose weight will be one that will last (i.e. is well built), and that you enjoy running on. Too many people buy a treadmill to lose weight, then stop running on it after 4-5 months. We believe the key is the enjoyment factor, which is why we recommend treadmills that have great programs like iFit.
That being said, the ProForm SmartPro 2000 is a great treadmill for losing weight. It’s well-built and comes with iFit that has a ton of great programming to keep you excited to run and shed those pounds. Others you could consider would be the NordicTrack 1750, or if you want to really hit it hard, the x22i incline trainer.
Good luck!
2000 has 3-year ifit included in price
How high is the step up on this?
Amber,
The step up height is about 10″ from the floor to the surface of the deck when it is flat at a 0% incline. The side rails are slightly higher than the deck itself.
I bought the Proform 2000 treadmeal last April 2020 and I totally agree with this review.
Hi. Very helpful review. Just wanted to ask. Can I sync a tablet to use ifit the same way as the builtin 7″ screen. If yes then the small screen on this treadmill is not really a deal breaker. Thanks
Rob
Rob,
You can download and log in to iFit Coach app on a tablet to watch a class, but it won’t sync with your machine to control incline and speed.
How large is the box that the ProForm is delivered in? Is it easy to assemble and disassemble? I’m a renter who moves somewhat frequently.
Emma,
The box containing the ProForm 2000 is quite large. Once you have removed the treadmill from the box it rarely stays together. We don’t recommend disassembling the treadmill unless you really need to. If you move frequently, we recommend folding the treadmill in half as it is designed to do, and then secure it with straps in a large truck.
Going back to the assembly question, does it come assembled or do you have to assemble it yourself? If I have to assemble it, how difficult is it to put together?
Rach,
Some assembly is required. We have assembled most of the machines in our studio and it takes just over an hour with two people. It is not difficult, but having two people is helpful when attaching the uprights and console. All necessary tools are included and the instructions are adequate.
If we don’t want to use the Ifit subscription, does the screen have an option to revert more to an basic screen that shows distance, time, and an imaginary 1/4 mile track?
Doug,
Yes, you can access manual mode without iFit. This is a white screen with a 1/4 mile track with your distance, time, speed and lap speed.
Thank you for the very helpful and informative video and article! But, I can’t figure out how to access the 50 onboard workouts. The manual has no information on it and I’ve tried unsuccessfully to troubleshoot it myself. I want to be able to go back and forth from iFit to manual (it’s likely even if I love iFit, I won’t be able to afford it when my free year runs out). I can choose “manual” mode on the screen, but can’t find the preset workouts. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Karla,
When you have access to the full iFit library during that first year when it’s free — it is difficult to distinguish the subscription iFit programs from the 50 preloaded classes. If you log out of iFit in the top left corner on the main screen and then access the library, you will notice more than half of the classes are blacked out. The classes that are available are those what come free without an iFit subscription.
This was so helpful. I was searching everywhere for info on how to access the on board workouts. Thanks!! I just love this treadmill. I’ve had it for a year now.
Great! Thanks Joanna!
Seriously thinking about buying this, just one question–is the 1 yr ifit subscription for an individual, or a family subscription? Thank you!
The free year of iFit is the family plan — so you get up to 5 profiles
I literally just spent hours researching treadmills and this review was by far the best and most comprehensive one (as well as the additional explanations in the comments — I too was worried that the treadmill would be useless / “bricked” if I didn’t feel like renewing iFit, so I’m relieved to hear that it can still be used!). Thank you for a great review and comparison with other models! I wish I would have found this article far earlier in the day, ha ha. Keep up the great work!
I confirmed with Proform’s customer service that the new 2021 Pro 2000 does not come with a tablet holder. When inquiring about one, they said, “There is an attachment available through our Customer Service team. only. I believe it is $99”. Apparently the only way to order one is by contacting customer service.
Really good review. Im looking to buy and have a narrowed down list. I think this would have been absolutely perfect but that screen just seems a little pointless. It would have been better to have the option to cast or at least connect to a TV
Are there many differences besides the size of the screen between the Proform 2000 and the Proform 5000? Just wondering if the extra cost for the 5000 was worth it. Thanks
Mandi,
ProForm is no longer selling the Pro 5000 on their website. We don’t know if they plan to bring it back or have phased it out entirely. The ProForm 2000 is great for walking, jogging and some light running. The Pro 9000 is better if you plan to do a lot of running or have multiple users in your home that will use the treadmill regularly since it has a larger motor.
What is the maximum step up height when the treadmill is fully inclined?
About 16 inches
Is this a suitable treadmill for serious runners training for a marathon at a pretty fast pace (ie 10mph)?
Alex,
That’s an impressive pace for a marathon! We’d probably recommend something stronger than the Pro 2000. Based on your pace and anticipated training regimen, the Pro 9000 or Nordictrack 1750 would work better. If you have the budget, the Nordictrack 2450 is excellent for marathon training, but that’s a bit of a price jump. When considering a treadmill for marathon training, we recommend a motor that is at least 3.5 horsepower and added cushioning in the deck. That size motor will be able to support your high speeds and longer distances while the cushioned makes it so you can run longer without impact fatigue or joint injury.
I have seen some mixed reviews and am not sure that they are all talking about the latest model. Wondering if you can add some clarification around a few questions:
– Can you confirm that the new 2021 model does not come with a tablet holder or a USB plug to charge a tablet? Your article says it has one, but I don’t see it as an option on the ProForm website or any of the photos of the 2021 and a comment from one of your users says they spoke to ProForm and they say it is available to buy through them for another $99. Any insight into this please?
– I have heard that if you do not want to use ifit that it can be several button pushes to get to manual mode and just start working out. Can you describe how long it takes to just get on and do a non-ifit quick exercise and what the process is for getting the belt running without ifit?
– I have heard and seen several different descriptions of the warranty available. Consumer reports says –
Lifetime frame and motor, 5 yrs parts and electronics, 2 yrs labor, the ProForm website and your review says 10-Year Frame, 2-Year Parts, & 1-Year Labor.. Is your information updated for the 2021 model? What category covers the motor? What about the electronics like the screen?
I am looking to choose between the Sole F80 and the ProForm Pro 2000. Any insight in comparison would be great. Use would be wife strictly walking, Me a mix of walking and short runs and my 19 yr old son who would walk and do longer runs. My son is in good shape and my wife and I are both 47, out of shape and need a treadmill for weight loss and better health.
Thank you very much for your help and insight!
Nate,
You are correct: the 2021 model of the ProForm Pro 2000 does NOT have a tablet holder or USB port charger. We’ll update the part about the charger in our review. The 2021 model is significantly different from the 2020 model in several ways. (I’ll outline a few below).
If you just want to use manual mode, you have to wait for the console library to load and then hit, “Manual” in the top right corner. It only takes as long as your wifi connection can load the app – so that’s a bit variable. But getting to manual mode isn’t difficult.
According to our 2021 owner’s manual, the ProForm Pro 2000 has a 10-year warranty on the frame, with 2 years for parts and 1-year labor. I understand the motor falls under the “parts” category.
As I mentioned, the 2021 Pro 2000 has been updated, but it now has a smaller motor and smaller belt rollers. If you are looking for something simple that doesn’t require a subscription, the Sole F80 is a more powerful machine. It has a 22″ wide by 60″ long deck and a 3.5HP motor. The Pro 2000 is 20″ wide and 60″ long and has a 3.25HP motor. Also, the Sole F80 inclines to 15% while the Pro 2000 only inclines to 12%. Personally, I’d opt for the F80 – especially if you want something that has an easy to use manual mode. You just hop on and go.
Good luck!
The 2021 version claims to use ReBound Pro™ Cushioning instead of the ProShock cushioning in its previous models. Is there a difference in these cushioning’s or is it a rebranding of the same cushioning? I really love the Reflex Cushioning at OTF and see they are made by the same company, are they comparable?
Jovanie,
The ReBound Pro cushioning and ProShock cushioning are similar but not the exact same. ProForm changed the deck on the 2021 model so it’s a little different and the cushioning has been adjusted accordingly. This is a comfortable machine for walking but if you want more cushioning I’d recommend looking at the Pro 9000 or NordicTrack 1750.
Hello, i’m quite in doubt , between Proform Smart 2000 , 5000 or 1750 . I do run 2-3 times x week 10mph , which one is better for me ? in relation to quality and price .
Have a nice day
Yuzhang,
For you, we recommend the Nordictrack 1750. It is a step up from the ProForm 2000 or 5000. If you plan to run regularly, that is the best option.
Thanks for the great review! I was trying to decide between the Pro 2000 and NT1750 but based on some of your earlier comments it seems like the Pro 9000 is more comparable to the 1750. Have you tried the Pro 9000 yet? (2021 version). If so, any thoughts on how it compares to the 1750?
AP,
The 1750 is a better treadmill with a smaller screen. The Pro 9000 has an amazing screen but the treadmill frame isn’t the same quality. The Pro 9000 is not as powerful, the rollers are smaller, the deck is thinner and it doesn’t have as much cushioning, but you do get a nice 22″ touchscreen. If you plan to use the treadmill mostly for walking, go with the Pro 9000, the screen is amazing. If you are a runner and you want to do some real distance/speed work, the 1750 has a better motor, solid structural feel, and more cushioning.
I own one I like it but I don’t want the iFit, how can I bypass it? Or take it away I just want the regular treadmill.
Romina,
Click the “Manual” mode icon in the top right corner. It will take you to the manual lap screen that doesn’t have iFit video content.
HI, im very confused with the ProForm Pro and Proform 2000. I looked on Lowes website and it seems there’s 2 of the same yet different apparently. noticed the screen is 7inch on the one I ordered and got 15% incline and the other same price and all but screen is 10inch and thats the review you have.
Could you please help me lay out the difference with those 2? did I got good one or should have got the one you reviewing here? me, I want to lose weight and walk, inclined maybe jog, husband may use it and he runs. I didn’t want to get just a cheap one and end up not happy with it, so I went with this proform pro treadmill. thats how it tcomes up on Lowes, Item #1971027Model #PFTL13118. where I got confused too is on the proform website its not even on it:/ thank you for any help.
Aubry,
ProForm completely revamped the Pro 2000 in 2021, so there are significant differences between the 2020 model and the new 2021 model. The new model has a larger touchscreen, but a smaller motor and deck. The 2020 model had a smaller touchscreen but it was bigger and had a larger motor. The old 2020 model is no longer for sale on their website, so you can only buy that one through third party retailers who still have stock on hand. That’s why you’re seeing two different models. We actually prefer the 2020 model for power and stability if you plan to run. The new 2021 model is better for walking or hiking and has a nice, large touchscreen – but not as much power or cushioning. Hope this helps!
When you say the PF2000 is not good for long distance or serious runners, can you elaborate? A 3.25hp motor per their website is great for hard training. If my wife and I want to run 4-5 miles a day on this, are we going to burn out the motor? I dont run that fast and my wife i’d say goes anywhere from 7-8 mph for 4-5 miles max.
TW,
The Pro 2000 will work great for running 4-5 miles per day. For runners who are marathon training, or plan to do a triathlon, etc., we do recommend looking at something that is closer to 4HP like the Sole F85, NordicTrack 2450, 2950, or Bowflex 22. But for most users, a 3.0HP – 3.5HP motor works great.
Does the 2000 for still have a one ply belt for 2021 and do u still need wi fi to use. Thanks
Richard,
Yes, the Pro 2000 is a one-ply belt and you do need wifi to access all the features. Without wifi, you are limited to manual mode only.
