NordicTrack X24 Treadmill Review: The New Top Treadmill?

Dimensions/Storability

The NordicTrack X24 is a large, non-folding treadmill. If you want the most training options, you must have room for them. Its dimensions are 69.9” L x 38.1” W x 73.3” H. To use it safely, you’ll need to factor in these dimensions plus a few extra feet surrounding the treadmill’s deck.

Most people shove their treadmill in the corner of the room. If you’re going to do this, make sure the deck has enough space to incline. You might need to position the X24 further away from the wall than other treadmills.

You will also need to factor in the height. We’ll update this review when we get the X24 to include the deck’s height at the max incline. Until then, having at least a 9’6” tall ceiling if you’re 6’0” was our recommendation for the X32i. The X24 is most likely close to that. The deck is high and inclines high, requiring a taller ceiling than other treadmills.

With great size comes great weight. The X24 weighs 445 lbs when delivered in the box. It does have front transport wheels, so it can be moved. Considering only some of our team members can move the Incline Trainers that we have now, some people won’t be able to move the X24.

We don’t like having to move the X32i when we have to, so I would plan to keep the X24 in the spot where you intend to use it. Think of it as a new roommate that has its own space.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Workout apps are all the rage. NordicTrack has had iFIT for years. It is a big aspect of their treadmills. Here is what you can expect with the membership.

iFIT

The iFIT Pro membership available on the X24 gives you access to everything the treadmill’s touchscreen has to offer.

iFIT is a complete training program that requires a monthly subscription. The cost is $39 per month. However, you can purchase one-, two-, or three-year memberships upfront to save on the monthly price.

iFIT has a large library of trainer-led workouts. There are indoor and outdoor workouts for the treadmill and other equipment.

The NordicTrack X24 includes workouts for the treadmill and mat classes for off-the-treadmill training. There are indoor filmed trainer-led workouts filmed in professional studios. A camera faces the instructor; sometimes, other participants surround the instructor.

Where iFIT stands out is the outdoor workouts. These are filmed on every continent. Beaches, cities, roads, trails, mountains, and more make up the locations. You can hike up mountains in Hawaii and walk through cities in Italy.

The instructor leads you through the location, often discussing the area throughout the workout. These let you explore the world from the comfort of your home, specifically from the X24.

iFIT also has awesome features to help you improve your training experience on the X24. SmartAdjust is where the treadmill automatically adjusts the speed and incline to match the format of the iFIT workout. SmartAdjust uses the instructor’s cues and your previous workout history to make the treadmill adjustments.

iFIT considers your prior workouts to determine an appropriate speed based on your fitness level and previous performance. You can override this and adjust the X24 anytime, but this is a cool feature for hands-free training. The Follow Trainer button also lets you follow what the instructor has specifically programmed regarding speed.

The incline will adjust with SmartAdjust to match the terrain of the outdoor workout. So, if you’re running up a hill, the X24’s incline will adjust to match.

ActivePulse is another awesome feature. It adjusts the treadmill to keep you at specific target heart rate zones throughout the workout. To use this feature, you must use NordicTrack’s heart rate armband (sold separately) or a compatible heart rate tracker.

iFIT also syncs your workouts to apps like Strava, Google Fit, Garmin Connect, and Apple Health for more tracking.

You can now create your own workouts in iFIT. These involve setting goals for your time, distance, and calories. You can also set the time, speed, and incline for different intervals.

In these workouts, a track with all your training metrics is shown on the screen, just like in manual mode.

iFIT is still beta-testing some of the features. At the time of writing this, Google Maps weren’t available. This is where you can draw your route on a map, and during the workout, Google Images will display the location on the screen.

We hope Google Maps will return, but we like the fact that we can now create our own standard workouts in iFIT.

An AI iFIT Coach feature is coming soon. This is where you can talk with the AI Coach over texts on your phone and create a personalized workout routine. It will recommend specific iFIT workouts based on your goals. We’re excited to try this feature when it’s available.

We would like to see some improvements in the music. iFIT uses a Feed.fm feature that has preset playlists of songs split into different genre stations. It’s kind of like listening to the radio in the background of your iFIT workout. You can now skip up to 6 songs per station per hour rather than just changing the station to change the song.

We’d love to see iFIT implement music into the studio-filmed workouts. Being able to pair a device and play our own music would be helpful, too. Spotify isn’t available on our NordicTrack equipment yet, but this looks to be one of the streaming apps available to stream music of your choosing.

The Feed.fm feature works fine because the bulk of the library consists of outdoor workouts, and having Spotify now is helpful. The other updates iFIT has made up for this, too.

One of those updates I’m talking about is the streaming apps. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are available to stream directly from the X24 in iFIT. You still have to log into your account for the streaming service, but this is an excellent addition. Many other platforms, like Peloton, are already offering this.

What’s nice about the streaming apps is that you can start watching from the manual workout mode, custom workout mode, or even during the trainer-led iFIT workouts. If you have SmartAdjust on, the X24 will still adjust to match the workout format while you watch your Netflix show.

Overall, the amount of content available with iFIT makes a subscription worth it to us on the X24.

Onboard Workouts

You can use the NordicTrack X24 Treadmill without an iFIT subscription. However, you will need to create a free iFIT account to access the ten onboard workouts. Some standard workouts and a few featured iFIT trainer-led workouts are available for free.

Manual mode is also available. You have to have a free account, however.

Console

The NordicTrack X24’s console has been upgraded and streamlined a bit. The touchscreen is 24” instead of 32”. We felt like the touchscreen was too big on the X32i. It covered the cup holders, and the handles covered some of the screen.

24” is my favorite screen size. It’s large enough to see and reach clearly without being overly large. The upper handles don’t cover the screen. Plus, the screen now pivots. So, if you’re taking an iFIT treadmill boot camp class or want to follow up on your hike or run with some yoga or strength training, you can easily pivot the screen to the side to see it.

We’re unsure if this will make the screen shake a little bit, but we’ll update this review of our findings once we use the X24.

We’re glad to see that the screen has been updated to be faster with a new processor. Unfortunately, technology can feel dated even after just a few years.

The soundbar and fans below the screen have been updated. We hope the fans are still powerful. They are on other NordicTrack equipment. We expect the speakers to still offer enough volume and be clear.

The only update I’m hesitant about is the lack of the quick-touch adjustment buttons. These buttons have helped to make NordicTrack treadmills very easy and convenient to use. The standard start/stop buttons and the incline and speed buttons are still below the screen.

These adjust the speed by a tenth and the incline by 0.5%.

I like all of the changes for the most part, but I wish these buttons were kept. On the screen, these buttons are now on the left and right sides. You just have to touch the touchscreen to use them.

The cup holders are now accessible on the X24, unlike the X32i, where you had to reach around the screen. The real test is whether they’ll hold my 40-oz water bottle, but it looks like they’re large and deep enough for most standard water bottles.

There isn’t a device rack. Since iFIT is a big appeal to this treadmill, we didn’t expect to see one.

Build Quality

We expect the overall build quality to be the same, if not better, than that of the X32i. However, the 400-lb weight limit and lifetime motor warranty indicate that the NordicTrack X24 is probably better.

Frame

The steel frame sits under the entire deck. The floor frame has beams for more support, and two steel uprights extend from the frame to hold the console.

We like the more rectangular deck and sharper edges of the frame. Together with the all-black design, they make the X24 look sleek.

Motor

The motor is powerful—it’s 4.25 CHP, the highest DC motor we usually see in home treadmills. DC motors are more commonly found in home treadmills. They are quieter and made for lighter use than AC motors found in commercial treadmills.

The X24 should handle a lot of running for one person and even a whole family. This treadmill was made for distance running and HIIT. You can walk, jog, run, and hike on the X24. Considering it goes up to 12 mph, a 5-minute mile pace, this speed will be a sprint for some people.

This motor is the same size as the X32i, so it could be the same motor. That would mean that it is responsive and quiet. We hope, at the very least, that the X24 is as responsive and quiet as the X32i. The X32i’s motor took about 23 seconds to go from 1 mph to 12 mph. It isn’t the fastest-adjusting treadmill, but it adjusts promptly, so you never feel like you’re waiting for it to get up to speed.

The motor is tucked under the deck, so you don’t have to worry about hitting a motor hood with your feet. Another motor for the incline and decline is also under the deck. This motor is for the impressive 40% incline and -6% decline.

In our testing, we test the motor responsiveness (how long it takes to get up to speed) and the incline and decline accuracy. The X32i was pretty accurate. The 40% incline measured just under at 38.8%. So, hopefully the X24 Treadmill’s 40% incline is a bit more accurate than this.

The X24 most likely has a speed cap when the treadmill is at its full max incline. It probably goes up to 8 mph when it reaches a 16% incline and up to 6 mph at a 25% incline and above.

This is for safety. The incline on this treadmill is tough and impossible for most people to run at. Trust me, even if the X24 has these speed caps, you’ll still be challenged.

Deck

The deck is 22” wide and 60” long. 60” is our preferred deck length for running. Considering all that the X24 can do, we’re glad it is at least this long and wide. You should have plenty of room for running and the full incline and decline.

The X32i had a 65” long deck, which was nice for the full incline, while the X22i had a 60” long deck, and we had plenty of room for the incline, decline, and running. The X24’s deck should be plenty large for everything the treadmill offers.

The X32i had one of the most comfortable running decks I’ve ever run on. In our testing, we found NordicTrack treadmills to have the most absorbent deck cushioning. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to run on NordicTrack treadmills over other brands.

We hope the X24 is as soft to run on as the previous Incline Trainers. I could do with it not feeling as bouncy at higher speeds over 9 mph, though.

The SpringFlex cushioning is said to be soft underfoot.

Warranty

NordicTrack includes their standard 10-year frame, 2-year parts, and 1-year labor warranty with the X24. The motor is also now covered with a lifetime warranty. We love the coverage on the motor; it indicates that it is well-powered and well-made.

To assemble the X24, you’ll need two people at a minimum. This is a heavy treadmill, and assembling it out of the box is challenging.

Should You Buy The NordicTrack X24 Treadmill?

If you’re looking for a treadmill to take your training to the next level, then yes. Suppose you want to train on a soft-cushioned premium treadmill with the highest incline, yes, again. If you love iFIT and want the most training options when you follow along with the instructors, definitely yes.

If you’re looking for a budget treadmill, this one isn’t it. The NordicTrack X24 is at the top of the brand’s lineup. It has a large, rotating 24” touchscreen; the 40% incline and -6% decline are unreal. It’s worth its price.

The X24 is large and requires a lot of room, so keep this in mind. If you have the space and budget for it, however, this could be the treadmill of your dreams. I know it’s the treadmill of my dreams.
