Lifespan TR1200-DT3 is a walking treadmill that is designed for office use. This treadmill has a low profile so it will slide underneath your existing standing desk. The TR1200 includes a console that sits on your desk to control the speed of the treadmill. The TR1200 has a 2.25 horsepower motor that is smooth and quiet and it incorporates LifeSpan’s Intelli-Step technology which automatically turns off the treadmill whenever you step off it. In-depth Review of TR1200 DT3 Treadmill

Construction

LIfeSpan TR1200 standing desk over console

Frame

The Lifespan TR1200-DT3 does not include a desk – the treadmill itself features a sturdy base and has a low step up height of 4.6” which makes it easy to step on and off. The low profile design helps it to fit even under tight spaces with ease. It will support the weight of most users and works well in private or shared office environments.

The 2.25 HP motor is quiet and provides a speed range 0.4 – 4.0 mph. This treadmill shouldn’t bother those in a shared office. When we tested it, the most noticeable noise was from the belt as it slides along the deck. The motor itself makes hardly any noise. Depending on the user’s shoes and weight, the noise output may vary; but in general, this is a quiet treadmill in and of itself.

The TR1200 doesn’t feature an incline or decline, which is actually preferable for an under desk treadmill. Since you are standing in front of a desk, an incline can negatively impact your posture. The TR1200 keeps you upright and supports a good walking stride while you work at your desk.

Deck

LifeSpan TR1200 Under desk treadmill review

  • Cushioning/Feel
    • The TR1200 has six shock absorbers under the deck to add joint support and cushioning while you walk. Since many office users may wear business shoes with less cushioning and support than athletic shoes, the TR1200 deck is designed to be supportive and comfortable as you walk throughout your day. You can tuck a pair of easily removable athletic shoes under your desk as well to enhance your walking experience.
  • Length/Width
    • The footprint of the TR1200 is 63″ Long x 28.5″ Wide x 7.25″ High. The actual walking belt measures 20” wide and 50” long, which is enough room for a comfortable walking stride. A low-profile motor hood on the front of the treadmill keeps the motor quiet and protected so it doesn’t impede your stride.
  • Belt and Side Rails
    • The treadmill has a ¾ ” thick walking belt, with black, non-slip side rails, and a cushioned deck all powered by the 2.25 HP motor. The side rails are slightly higher than the belt which keeps your feet from sliding off while walking. There is also plenty of forward and aft space for a nice stride and the TR1200 will support walkers of most heights.

Motor

  • 2.25 HP motor
      • The 2.25HP motor is not the most powerful in LifeSpan’s lineup, but it works great for a part-time office. The motor is quiet and supports a smooth walking pace. We found about 2mph to be perfect when working at a desk, any faster and it’s hard to type or read. But the TR1200 will go up to 4mph if needed (maybe for a Zoom call — you can walk while you listen). Most under desk treadmills will only go up to 2mph, so it’s nice to have the option of higher speeds when needed.

    Console/Controls

    LifeSpan TR1200 console

    Console Features

    • LifeSpan TR1200-DT3 console weighs 3lbs and is designed to sit on your desk for easy access. It has a safety key attached to the front end that is required for the console to operate. If the safety key is removed, the treadmill automatically stops. This allows users to clip the key to their clothing in case they step away or have an issue, the treadmill will stop.
    • A main On/Start button begins the treadmill and there are several settings you can toggle through including time, calories, distance, speed, and weight. Up/Down buttons allow users to move through the settings to see calorie counts and steps, etc. The console will hold the readout of whatever metric you select.
    • The LifeSpan TR1200 includes onboard Intelli-Step technology. Even if you step on and off the treadmill throughout the day, the Intelli-Step feature will keep track of your total steps which sync with the LifeSpan app.
    • The Intelli-Guard technology present ensures a safe work environment and makes sure the treadmill operates only when you are actively walking on it.
    • The TR1200 is Bluetooth enabled so you can sync your workout activity and track your progress over time with the LifeSpan Active Track fitness app.

    Controls

    LifeSpan TR1200 USB charging port

    • The red LED displays which metric is being displayed on the digital readout. You can select walking belt speed, distance traveled, calories burned, time elapsed and step count.
    • Various adjustments allow you to turn control beeps on or off; adjust maximum walking speed, or display miles per hour or kilometers per hour
    • There is also a USB charging port on the console to charge mobile devices.

    Functionality

    Performance

The TR1200 is a quiet treadmill designed for office use that will pair with many standing desks. The TR1200-DT3’s compact dimensions make it easy to place under your standing desk or you can select from one of LifeSpan’s many desk options (outlined below). Studies have documented many advantages of walking as opposed to sitting and since most office workers spend large amounts of time at their desk, an under desk treadmill is a great way to counteract any ill effects from sitting and inactivity. Sitting can exacerbate existing postural deviations that may lead to back and neck pain, tight hip flexors and a forward thrust to the chin. Walking naturally alleviates these issues by stimulating a healthy walking posture that strengthens the legs and core and keeps the head upright rather than leaning forward.

The LifeSpan Intelli-Step feature tracks your steps for you and the Intelli-Guard safety mechanism turns off the belt whenever you step off it. This allows you to walk away from your desk without having to manually turn off the treadmill — and when you return, you won’t accidentally step on a moving belt. This is also a great safety feature if you work at home with children or pets around.

    Storage

The TR1200 weighs 114 pounds, which is surprisingly lightweight for a treadmill. There are also two front mounted transport wheels that make it easy to gently lift and roll for proper under-desk positioning. It is not recommended that the treadmill be routinely moved in and out of a closet or in and out of different offices. While it is well built, the treadmill works best when placed where you plan to use it and moved infrequently.

    Desk Options:

The TR1200 DT3 does not include a desk. This is a walking treadmill that is designed to slide under your existing standing desk. This under desk treadmill includes a DT3 console which sits on your existing desk. The treadmill will not work with a seated desk, so make sure you select a desk option that allows you to stand upright on the treadmill and reach the top of the desk without leaning over. LifeSpan includes several desk options if you want to get a tread/desk combination.

    DT5 Manual Desk:

The DT5 is a great standing desk if you don’t plan on making frequent height adjustments. This sturdy desk includes padded armrests and a conveniently located console that doesn’t occupy any of the desk space.

    • Manual-height adjustment
    • Two-stage telescoping legs
    • Internal cable management
    • Bluetooth enabled
    • 38” & 48” desktop width options
    • Multiple desktop color options

    DT7 Electric Desk:

The DT7 is the ideal desk for multi-user environments including communal and public areas. The desk includes the same padded armrests and integrated control console as the DT5 plus the addition of electric-height adjustment. Height adjustment buttons are conveniently located within the console and include memory support for two users.

    • Electric-height adjustment
    • Two-stage telescoping legs
    • Internal cable management
    • Bluetooth enabled
    • 38”, 48”, 60” & 72” desktop options
    • Multiple desktop color options

LifeSpan TR1200 Under Desk Treadmill Conclusion:

The TR1200 is an excellent under desk treadmill that will allow you to walk up to four hours per day to stay active while you stay productive. LifeSpan under desk treadmills are used world-wide by government agencies, universities, health centers, and businesses who have adopted an active-office lifestyle. Researchers and health professionals have long touted the many health benefits of walking as opposed to sitting. When you stand and walk, your body naturally adjusts to an upright, elongated position where your neck and spine hover over the hips rather than jutt forward in front of a computer. Walking while working also keeps the blood moving through your legs and feet, which reduces the chances of blood pooling or DVT issues. For office workers who spend hours a day in front of a computer, an under desk treadmill is a valuable feature. The TR1200 is designed to be quiet, work under most standing desks, and use a console that is easy to navigate. LifeSpan’s Intelli-Guard feature also stops the treadmill belt whenever you step off it. Like most of the LifeSpan office treadmills, the TR1200’s 6-compression shocks absorb impact while walking and the treadmill comes fully assembled out of the box so that you can use it immediately. It also features an impressive lifetime frame warranty, with a 3-year warranty on the motor, 2-years on parts, and 1-year on labor. The LifeSpan TR1200 DT3 is a solid under desk treadmill that we are happy to recommend as part of your healthy office work environment.
