NordicTrack X24 Bike Review 2024: Our New Favorite Bike?

Dimensions/Storability

Exercise bikes are more accessible than most treadmills, ellipticals, and rowers because they take up less space. They don’t require tall ceilings, and the floor space they occupy is usually a fraction of that of these other types of equipment.

The NordicTrack X24 Bike is about the same size as most other exercise bikes with touchscreens: 56.4” L x 21.8” W x 62.7” H. In addition to these dimensions, you’ll need to make sure you have enough room to get on and off to use it.

The X24 weighs a little more than other bikes. When delivered in the box, it weighs 205 lbs. Considering its weight, the front two transport wheels make it fairly easy to move around. You lift the back floor stabilizer to engage the wheels.

When I move exercise bikes like this, I usually place one hand on the stabilizer and one hand behind the saddle. You’ll want to watch out for the front touchscreen to ensure you don’t hit it against anything.

You’ll also want to remove the included 3-lb weights from the front. They tend to fall when moving other bikes.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Being from NordicTrack, the X24 offers iFIT on the touchscreen. With any exercise bike with a touchscreen, the training/streaming content is a big aspect of the whole machine. Plenty of bikes don’t include touchscreens if you prefer a more unplugged experience.

The X24 provides an interactive training experience with iFIT. Here’s what you can expect from the Pro membership. It’s $39 per month. However, you can purchase up to three-year memberships upfront to save.

iFIT

iFIT offers thousands of workouts led by instructors. There are indoor-filmed workouts that follow the in-person spin class format. These feature an instructor leading the class and often participants following along in person.

Peloton, a big competitor to iFIT, models most of its subscription training content after this. It’s what Peloton is known for. What iFIT is known for is the outdoor-filmed workouts. These are where iFIT sets itself apart from other subscription training services.

iFIT workouts are filmed all over the world in various locations. From remote areas to busy cities, an instructor guides you through the workout, kind of like a tour guide.

On the X24 Bike, you can bike up mountains, across roads, and through cities, all from the saddle in your home.

The SmartAdjust features help make it feel like you’re actually riding outside. In iFIT workouts, the X24 will automatically adjust to match the format of the workout. By following along with the instructor’s cues, the terrain in which the video is filmed, and factoring your effort in previous workouts, SmartAdjust will change the incline/decline and resistance of the bike for you.

You can bypass this, but I like this feature. It takes any guesswork out for me.

iFIT syncs your workout history to other apps, such as Strava, Apple Health, Google Fit, and Garmin Connect.

iFIT has a create-your-own workout feature. You can set different time, distance, and calorie goals here. You can create different intervals, too.

We have been using the new beta-testing version of iFIT. Currently, Google Maps doesn’t seem to be available. This is where you can draw a route on a map and Google Images display of the route on the screen. We hope iFIT will bring this feature back.

Google Maps and the create-your-own workout feature allow you to train without following along with an instructor. There is also a manual mode for doing your own thing.

An AI Coach feature is coming soon. This feature lets you text on your phone with the AI Coach to get personalized training routines. The AI Coach will recommend specific iFIT trainer-led workouts based on the goals you tell it about.

We’re excited to try this cool feature when it’s available. We’ll update this review once it is.

One of the biggest updates, besides the overall layout, which I like and find easy to use, is the addition of streaming apps. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are currently available for us. Spotify is said to be available, too; we just don’t have it on our equipment yet.

To access these apps, you’ll need to be subscribed to iFIT and log into your accounts for each app. Many other subscription training services, like Peloton, are already offering streaming apps. This is a welcome addition to iFIT.

You can keep your iFIT, manual, or created workout going in the background of your Netflix show with the apps. You can also toggle back and forth between streaming content and your workout content.

iFIT’s music is where I’ve had the most complaints, along with the lack of streaming apps. Now, with the streaming apps, I am less inclined to call out iFIT’s music. There is a FEED.fm feature where the music plays in the background of the workouts.

There are different genre stations that each have a preselected playlist of songs. You can skip up to six songs per station per hour. In the indoor-filmed workouts, it would be nice to have music integrated into the workouts to add more energy.

Considering most of iFIT’s workouts are outside and the level of production and quality those already involve bring us workouts in so many unique places, I’m fine with the music as is. Now that Spotify is available, this is a game changer.

iFIT is a big part of the overall experience on the NordicTrack X24 Bike. I highly recommend checking it out.

Onboard Workouts

However, the X24 can be used without a subscription. There are onboard workouts and featured iFIT workouts available. Manual mode is also available. You have to create a free iFIT account to access these features and use the X24 beyond the login screen.

Console

The X24’s main functionality is the 24” touchscreen. It’s where your metrics, like the bike’s resistance and iFIT, are displayed.

The 24” touchscreen is slim and pivoting to position to either side of the bike for cross training. iFIT offers several mat workouts like Yoga, meditation, and strength training. There are also bike boot camp classes that fit training on and off the bike in the same workout.

The pivoting screen allows you to get more from an iFIT subscription.

The fan should be effective. We’ve found on the S22i and other NordicTrack equipment that the fans work well. The speaker is a soundbar under the screen. I assume it’s been upgraded, like the screen, and offers plenty of volume.

The resistance and incline adjustment buttons are still on the handles, so you can conveniently adjust the resistance and grade of the bike under your fingertips. The other buttons for the fan and speakers look to be removed. They might be only on the touchscreen and/or on the sides of the screen.

There isn’t a device rack to stream content from your phone or tablet. This way, you’re more locked into the content on the screen–iFIT. A tray for your phone is available between the handlebars, though. It fits my iPhone perfectly on the S22i. The X24 appears to have the same tray. The included 3-lb weights sit on either side of the tray, too.

Two water bottle holders are below the handles. They don’t fit my large 40 oz water bottle very well, but a standard one fits just fine.

Build Quality

The overall build of the NordicTrack X24 Bike looks to be the same, or at least very similar to the NordicTrack S22i and S27i.

The X24 has a 350-lb weight limit. This is typically the highest limit we see on exercise bikes.

Frame

The frame is made out of steel. The base, stabilizers, and posts are all steel. That’s part of the reason why it is heavier than others.

There are most likely adjustable leveling feet under the floor stabilizers to plant the bike on the floor. We haven’t experienced any rocking with NordicTrack’s other bikes we’ve used, so we don’t expect this one to, either.

The S22i has great adjustability. I hope the X24 does as well. We are expecting the leg span, which is your inseam, to be 28”-41”. Our team ranges from 5’0” up to 6’5” and we’re all comfortable on NordicTrack’s bikes.

The NordicTrack X24 Bike should have good adjustability with the seat and handlebars. It looks to have three adjustment points. The saddle can be adjusted forward/back, up/down, and the handles can be adjusted up and down. Most bikes with touchscreens only have three adjustment points.

Flywheel

NordicTrack doesn’t list the X24’s flywheel weight. Considering it’s a front-mounted flywheel and it looks to be identical to the S22i and S27i, I assume it is also 32 lbs.

NordicTrack’s bikes are engineered for heavy flywheels. In this case, the weight of the flywheel is used to create a smooth and consistent feeling when you pedal. It also helps contribute to the overall stability of the bike. The X24 should be smooth, stable, and quiet.

It uses adjustable magnetic resistance. This type of resistance requires less maintenance than friction, and it is smoother and quieter. There are 24 levels. 100 levels makes a little more sense. The Peloton Bikes and the Bowflex Velocore have 100 levels, but I like the 24 levels just fine.

Motor

The motor is at the back of the bike, and it controls the incline and decline features. This feature is unique to NordicTrack bikes. The frame of the bike tilts up to incline and down to decline. This way, you feel like you’re riding up and down hills outside.

The X24 inclines up to 20% and declines to -10%. We love NordicTrack for this innovation. It is one of the reasons why I have loved riding the S22i and S27i so much.

The incline and decline also change how the resistance feels, similar to when you’re cycling outdoors. If I’m on level 13 resistance, the resistance will feel heavier if I incline the bike and lighter if I decline the bike, from when I just have it at a 0% grade.

This takes riding indoors to a new level. It also allows you to get more variability with the 24 levels of resistance. So, in case you didn’t think 24 was enough, there are ways to make each level feel more challenging and less challenging with the incline and decline.

If you’re concerned about how much resistance you’ll have, I can’t pedal in the saddle with NordicTrack’s bikes at the full incline on level 24 resistance.

Drive System

Like most studio indoor exercise bikes, the X24 has a belt drive system. A belt connects the pedals to the flywheel. The makes pedaling the bike feel smooth, along with the magnetic resistance.

Belt drives require little to no maintenance, unlike chains that many air bikes have.

Regarding the pedals, the X24 has hybrid pedals. One side is a toe cage to wear regular athletic shoes and the other is an SPD clip to clip in your cleats. SPDs are the most common for indoor bikes. I like having both pedal types. Sometimes I don’t always clip in, or if other people ride the bike they can choose how they want to ride.

Handlebars & Saddle

The handlebars look to be the same as other NordicTrack studio bikes. They have plenty of areas to grip and are secure. I can wrap my hands around them, although they’re pretty thick. They are also wide, which is helpful for users of all sizes.

The coating prevents the handles from feeling slick on the S22i. These look to have the same coating.

The saddle is where I’m hoping the construction has gotten an upgrade. It was our only complaint about the S22i. The S22i’s saddle is narrow and contoured, so you can ride for long periods of time without worrying about saddle sores. However, it was stiff and more uncomfortable than other bike saddles I’ve used.

You can swap it out for a different seat, though. Once we get the NordicTrack X24, we’ll let you know how comfortable the saddle is.

Warranty

The warranty isn’t listed, but I assume the X24 comes with NordicTrack’s standard 10-year frame, 2-year parts, and 1-year labor warranty. It is a good idea to have at least two people for set-up.

Should You Buy The NordicTrack X24 Bike?

I’m very excited about the NordicTrack X24 Bike. NordicTrack makes some of my favorite exercise bikes. I think they just about nailed the S22i. I have a feeling the X24 is even better, considering all of the improvements NordicTrack has made to iFIT and the new 24” touchscreen on the X24.

The incline and decline feature, paired with the adjustable magnetic resistance, makes for an indoor cycling experience unlike what any other studio bike offers. It feels like you’re riding hills indoors. iFIT also offers app streaming from Netflix with a subscription, along with thousands of immersive trainer-led workouts filmed all over the world.

If you want an indoor exercise bike that will challenge your body while keeping your mind eager for more, this is the one for you.

How do NordicTrack’s bikes compare to Peloton?

NordicTrack’s bikes, like the X24, are similar to Peloton Bikes. They have touchscreens and subscription training content. The training content is primarily outdoor filmed. A trainer guides you through the workout in various locations.

Peloton mainly has studio-filmed trainer-led workouts. The Peloton Bikes are standard indoor cycling bikes, whereas NordicTrack’s bikes incline and decline. The frames tilt up and down to simulate the experience of riding up and down hills. This makes for a more realistic indoor cycling experience compared to other standard bikes like Peloton.

Do you need a subscription to use the NordicTrack X24 Bike?

The X24 Bike doesn’t require a subscription to use. When you create a free iFIT account you can access manual mode, onboard workout programs, and a couple of featured iFIT classes.

Keep in mind that the touchscreen doesn’t have much functionality without a subscription to iFIT, though.
