ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 Review: Read Before Buying

Dimensions/Storability

The ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14’s dimensions are 55” x 23” x 57”. It has transport wheels to help you roll the bike around as needed. It weighs 116 lbs as it comes shipped, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to move around. Lift it by the rear stabilizer and be careful with the screen, and you should be good to go.

iFIT includes off-bike strength and yoga classes. The screen rotates side to side, so store the bike in an area where you can train alongside it on a mat if desired.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

If you couldn’t tell already, iFIT is essential for the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14, so much so that they are a package deal. While you can train in manual mode without an iFIT subscription or access a few free iFIT classes if you cancel your membership, I recommend the Studio Bike Pro 14 to indoor cyclists who want a subscription service.

iFIT

A typical iFIT cycling class follows an iFIT coach as they cycle over a trail in Colorado, Costa Rica, Iceland, or many other locations. The bike’s resistance automatically adjusts according to the trainer’s cues. If you override the preset settings, iFIT will notice your adjustments and change the current and future classes to suit your fitness level better.

There are thousands of classes to choose from on and off the bike. If you have other iFIT-compatible equipment, you can access those classes with the same membership. You can also download the iFIT app onto your phone, tablet, or smart TV. I prefer using my device to access iFIT’s strength or yoga classes, but the Pro 14’s screen rotates for off-bike viewing.

iFIT-compatible exercise bikes do not currently have ActivePulse technology, but iFIT suggests that the feature will be available soon. ActivePulse would adjust the bike’s resistance to keep you in a set heart rate zone. I love this feature on iFIT treadmills so I’m eager to see it on the bike.

AI Coach Tailor is one of iFIT’s newest features. This feature is opt-in and is not yet available to every member because it is still in beta. If you use the AI feature, Tailor will text you to learn about your fitness goals. Then, you receive daily iFIT class recommendations to help you reach your goals. Tailor will text you to remind you of your scheduled workouts.

This AI Coach is a nice feature, but I hope by the time it gets out of beta it gets more personalized. It doesn’t seem responsive to whether or not you actually take the classes or need to schedule them at a different time. However, AI technology is new, so it will be interesting to watch how this feature evolves with more user feedback.

My favorite new iFIT feature is the entertainment. With an iFIT membership on the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14, you can access your Netflix, Prime Video, and Spotify accounts. You can take an iFIT class while streaming entertainment apps. The video will appear app-in-app, allowing you to see both screens simultaneously if desired.

You can train in manual mode if you need a break from iFIT.

Console

The Pro 14 has a 14” touchscreen display. It rotates side to side for viewing on and off the bike. You can use the Pro 14 as the hub for viewing iFIT strength and yoga classes. The screen size should be good for interacting and viewing. There are only two buttons not on the touchscreen. I believe these are resistance controls.

The console is very minimal. Below the screen, there are speakers. All the ProForm speakers I have tested to date have been clear and loud enough to hear while training. If you need an alternative audio option, iFIT classes have closed captions. You can also pair Bluetooth headphones to train quietly.

The Pro 14 does not have a fan. I recommend using a ceiling or floor fan to stay cool while training.

There is one water bottle holder on the frame. It should hold a traditional cycling water bottle. The only other storage option on the Pro 14 is the dual dumbbell rack. It holds the two 3-lb dumbbells included with the bike.

If I discover any other features on the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 when I test it, I will update this review accordingly. For now, the Pro 14 appears very similar to most ProForm equipment I have tested, so I expect the same quality.

Build Quality

The strength of the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 is its onscreen features with iFIT. The bike’s build is nice but simpler than that of the NordicTrack Studio Bikes, like the X24. The Pro 14 is perfect for anyone who doesn’t mind a simple bike in exchange for a better deal on subscription training. Still, the Pro 14 has all the necessities.

Frame

The ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 has a steel frame. It sits on two stabilizers. The rear stabilizer appears to have adjustable leveling feet. The front stabilizer does not have adjustable feet, but it has fixed feet and two transport wheels.

It can support a maximum weight of 250 lbs. This weight limit is below the industry standard of 300 lbs, so it is not the best option for larger cyclists.

Flywheel & Resistance

ProForm does not disclose the Pro 14’s flywheel weight. Based on past ProForm equipment flywheels, we estimate that it weighs between 20 and 32 lbs. We expect the flywheel to be heavy and smooth. I do not think the flywheel allows freewheeling, given that there is a red brake on the frame to slow the flywheel.

The ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 has 22 levels of magnetic resistance. The resistance should be sufficient for beginner to intermediate cyclists, but advanced cyclists may prefer a bike with more resistance. If I discover that the top level is more challenging than expected, I will revise my recommendation, but 22 levels is much less than Peloton and Bowflex’s 100 levels.

Handlebars & Saddle

The handlebars are bullhorn-shaped with a large center grip, too. I’m curious about the texture of the handlebars, but they look like they have sufficient grip options.

I’m not super hopeful about the saddle. In my experience, the saddle is the weakest component on iFIT-compatible bikes. The bike is replaceable, which is good. Most NordicTrack and ProForm saddles I have tested were not very comfortable.

Pedals

The pedals are hybrid pedals with SPD cleats and toe clips. They should work with all athletic shoes and SPD cycling shoes. They have buckles to secure your feet on the pedals with the toe clips.

Warranty

The ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 has a 10-year warranty on its frame, a 2-year parts warranty, and a 1-year labor warranty. This warranty length is typical. You can purchase a 3-year or 5-year extended warranty if desired.

Should You Buy the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14?

The ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 is one of the best options for indoor cyclists who want a nice bike and guided fitness for a reasonable price. With new training and entertainment features from iFIT, the Pro 14 is better than ever. Watch your favorite shows and movies or tour the world on rides recommended by the AI coach.

The Pro 14 has 22 magnetic resistance levels and includes two 3-lb dumbbells. If you purchase the Pro 14 as part of the ProForm+ deal, you also get three years of iFIT. iFIT has thousands of classes for cycling, strength training, and more. Make use of all iFIT classes by rotating the 14” touchscreen for on and off-bike viewing.

I recommend the Pro 14 exercise bike for beginner to intermediate cyclists. It also makes an excellent and more affordable introduction to the iFIT ecosystem.

Can you use the ProForm Studio Bike Pro without iFIT?

You can use the ProForm Studio Bike Pro without iFIT, but your training options will be limited to the manual training screen, a few selected iFIT classes, and a few preset programs. You need a free iFIT account to access these options. Without any iFIT account, you can train in manual training mode without connecting the bike to Wi-Fi.

Can you watch Netflix on the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14?

You should be able to watch Netflix on the ProForm Studio Bike Pro 14 once it receives the iFIT 2.0 update. These features are still in beta testing, so they may not yet be available to all iFIT subscribers.
