Best Treadmills For Walking of 2024 – Our Experts’ Top Picks
Let’s get into the details of each treadmill so you can find the perfect one.
Horizon T101 Treadmill
- Very budget friendly
- Great for walking and light jogging
- Quiet and powerful for walking
- Solid construction
- Foldable, compact, and lightweight
- Device rack and onboard workouts included
- Less console tech than others
- No wireless heart rate tracking
Most people will find walking on the T101 to be comfortable and spacious. The 20” wide and 55” long deck is supportive for walking. People with shorter running strides can also jog and run on the T101. Considering it goes up to 10 mph, this is a quick pace to get up to on this walking treadmill.
The deck’s cushioning is forgiving and more than what we see on entry-level models. The cushioning is the amount of give in the deck underfoot. The T101 lessens the impact on the joints of walkers and those who can run on it.
The Horizon T101 only weighs 180 lbs, which is on the lighter side for a treadmill, but it will support up to 300 lbs. Because of its size and weight limit, we recommend it to most people for walking.
The console is simple, and there are some onboard workout options, making it easy to use and understand. We recommend this treadmill for anyone looking for something to use at home for walking and cardiovascular training.
The smaller size of the Horizon T101 allows you to place this treadmill behind a couch or off to the side in a bedroom and use it while watching TV, reading your favorite book, or listening to music. The console has a device rack that holds your phone, tablet, or book.

Sole F63 Treadmill
- High-quality
- Affordable
- Quiet and powerful for walking and running
- Long deck for all running strides
- Onboard workout programs and device rack included
- Folds up and moves easily
- Simple console with less tech
- Ineffective fan
The Sole F63 is simple to use, does not require internet access, and folds up when you are finished. Sole has long been an industry leader in building quality and durable treadmills, and the Sole F63 is no exception. A lifetime warranty backs this machine and supports up to 325 lbs of weight.
This impressive treadmill is also reasonably priced, making it a viable option for most households.
Many fitness manufacturers have transitioned to online subscriptions and training content. However, the F63 remains technically simple but functionally proficient. The Sole F63 does not require a monthly subscription, but you can use it with the Sole+ app or whatever content is on your device. You can also plug it in and go!
The Sole F63 is easy to use and provides excellent training. It includes six basic, two custom, and two heart rate training programs.
For those who plan to walk, the Sole F63 provides all the functionality you’ll need at an excellent price point. The deck cushioning is firm but supportive, and the low step-up height of just 8” makes it easy to get on and off. You still have an incline of up to 15 levels for hill work and incline walking.

NordicTrack EXP 10i Treadmill
- 10” touchscreen
- Tablet rack
- iFIT training classes
- SmartAdjust and ActivePulse
- 0 to 12 mph speed range
- Compact folding frame
- 20” x 55” deck and 2.75 CHP motor are not suited to running
- Limited features without iFIT
The EXP 10i has a cushioned deck, which is perfect for walkers who want a softer surface to train on. Walkers can pick up their pace with the 0 to 12 mph speed range or increase their intensity with the 0 to 12% incline range. I recommend this treadmill for dedicated walkers, not runners.
iFIT provides all the onscreen training content for the EXP 10i. With an active membership, you can access thousands of video classes led by expert iFIT coaches. iFIT is accessible on the 10” touchscreen display. It also has a tablet rack if you want to view non-iFIT content.
Without iFIT, walkers are limited to manual training mode and a few preset programs if they have a valid iFIT login (free) and a Wi-Fi connection. Without Wi-Fi, you can train in manual mode. Therefore, I recommend the EXP 10i mainly for iFIT subscribers.

ProForm Carbon TLX Treadmill
- Budget-friendly
- Made for walking and running
- Spacious yet foldable deck
- Simple console with connectivity to iFIT
- Well-powered motor
- 12% incline and 12 mph max speed
- Requires being unlocked with phone
- Incline a little loud
It’s simple by design, with just an LCD screen on the console and quick-adjustment buttons that we love. If you want to use iFIT, you’ll need your device, but you can utilize AutoAdjust, just as you can on iFIT-enabled treadmills with touchscreens, like the EXP 7i.
Content aside, the Carbon TLX has a 3.0 HP motor. This motor is made for moderate training. Walkers and runners can log good distances on the TLX without worrying about it not keeping up. The deck cushioning is firm yet still forgiving on the joints. The folding deck also makes it space-conscious, so it can work in various home spaces.
We’re pleased with the 12 mph max speed and 12% max incline for the price point. The various training options make the TLX a top treadmill for walking, running, and run-walk intervals.
Consider the ProForm Carbon TLX if you want a space-saving treadmill for walking and running.

The Echelon Stride-6s has a good price tag. The 10” touchscreen display allows you to access Echelon’s trainer-led classes right from the console. Echelon’s membership features studio-filmed workout content for treadmill and mat workouts. WalkingPad R2 2-In-1 Treadmill
- 2-in-1 design for under a desk and on its own
- Folds in half and stored upright
- Very compact and lightweight
- It can be used almost anywhere
- Goes up to 3.7 mph at a desk and 7.5 mph on its own
- Handles a little sticky to adjust
- Small transport wheels
When it’s in use, the WalkingPad R2 has a 2-in-1 design that makes it very versatile. The handles fold up and down, so you can use the R2 in the middle of a room or under a desk. It has a 17” wide by 47” long deck, so it’s perfect for walking briskly in your living room as well as more slowly at your desk.
The R2’s belt goes up to 3.7 mph with the handles folded down on either side of the deck or 7.5 mph when the handles are upright. So, users with shorter running strides can also jog on the deck.
The WalkingPad R2 2-In-1 sits directly on the floor and has minimal cushioning, but it’s plenty comfortable to walk on. The R2 only weighs around 80 lbs and can handle users up to 240 lbs. NordicTrack X22i Incline Treadmill
- 40% incline and -6% decline
- Quiet and powerful motor for heavy use
- iFIT on the 22” touchscreen
- Very comfortable cushioning
- Heavy-duty construction
- Walk, run, and sled-push
- Doesn’t fold
- Heavy and needs designated space
The X22i has a beautiful 22” touchscreen that displays iFit, offering thousands of walking and hiking workouts. These workouts are filmed all over the world, and the treadmill automatically adjusts to the format of the class and grade of the location, so you can feel like you’re hiking up a mountain in Romania or up a volcano in Chile.
For cushioning, the X22i is one of the softest cushioned treadmills we’ve tested. There is shock-absorbing, and then there’s the X22i, which feels like floating across a cloud when walking and running. The deck is 22” wide and 60” long, so you’ll have plenty of room to incline, decline, and run.
Keep in mind that the NordicTrack X22i doesn’t fold up and weighs around 417 lbs (at least in the box), so it requires a designated space to use it. For its powerful 4.0 HP motor and incredible incline and decline range, the X22i is definitely worth it if you want to crank up your walking workouts to another level.

Redliro 2-In-1 Treadmill
- Versatile 2-in-1 design
- Very affordable
- Very compact
- Lightweight
- Stores upright
- For walking and some light jogging
- Too small for some to run
- For light use only
The handles fold up and down to roll the Redliro under a desk or park it in front of your TV. When testing the Redliro, we’re constantly impressed by how little floor space it occupies when it’s in use and how well it stores when it’s not in use.
When folded flat, the Redliro rolls under a bed or couch. However, it rests on pegs at the front of the motor hood, so it can be stored upright against the wall, too. Not very many treadmills are this small and stored this way, so we appreciate the innovation here.
The Redliro 2-In-1 is an Amazon-available treadmill ideal for walking. It has a 220 lb weight limit, so it isn’t best for larger folks, but for those within the limit, you can get in some steps on this one. The 7.5 mph max speed also allows jogging for those with shorter stride lengths.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly treadmill that can be used at your desk or on its own, we recommend the Redliro.

For such an affordable treadmill, the TR150 has some nice features. The motor is 2.25 HP to handle walking, and the deck is 16” wide and 50” long, providing a large enough surface for most walking strides. Those with shorter stride lengths should be able to slowly jog on the TR150, too.
The TR150 is made of alloy steel and weighs only 97 lbs. The deck folds up so it can be pushed out of the way when not in use. It is also lightweight enough to use on upper-level floors. So, not only does the affordable price make it accessible, but the design makes it appealing to more people and home spaces.

What Should You Look For When Buying The Best Treadmill For Walking?
Here are some things to consider when searching for the best walking treadmill for you and your home.
Deck Size – Walking Surface
Finding the right treadmill for walking is important! Most walking treadmills have decks around 50-55” long, which is best for most walking strides. Some are a little shorter than this, so be aware if you are a taller user with a long walking stride. You want to ensure that you have plenty of room to walk comfortably on the deck.
Space/Storage
You want to ensure that you fit on your treadmill and that the treadmill fits in the space where you intend to use it. Walking treadmills come in all different sizes and have folding and non-folding decks and consoles. You’ll probably want a small treadmill that folds if you have limited space. Some treadmills are so small that they can be stored under a bed or in a closet.
Motor Power & Weight Capacity
Don’t discount the motor simply because you plan to walk! Look at the specs to ensure the treadmill supports your anticipated usage. 2.0 – 3.0 HP motors are best for primarily walking and lighter to moderate use. Motors over 3.5-4.0 HP are more powerful for long-distance walking and running.
If you have multiple users in your home who also walk regularly, you’ll want to be sure you purchase a treadmill with a larger motor. If it’s just you and you walk for around 30-45 minutes per day, a smaller motor should work fine. Motor power can often correspond with speed and incline options, so look for the max speed listed and how high the deck inclines (if it inclines) to ensure it aligns with your goals.
You’ll also want to ensure you’re under the weight limit the treadmill is rated to hold. Smaller, more affordable treadmills usually have lower weight capacities of 250 lbs, while larger models have higher weight limits.
Console Design/Subscription Options
Having an easy-to-use console is key to any treadmill. Most have pretty standard layouts that make them easy and quick to adjust. Consoles with less tech – think LCD screens – usually come with preprogrammed workouts that you can follow along with. Most treadmills with touch screens offer subscription training content that gives you even more guidance while walking.
If you’re someone who likes to read or stream content from your device, you’ll want to make sure there is a rack to place your phone/tablet or book. Alternatively, you’ll probably want a smaller treadmill or one with a simple console with fewer frills if you plan to use the treadmill in front of your TV.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Lose Weight Walking On A Treadmill?
Absolutely! One of the best ways to lose weight is to find an exercise you enjoy, that you know how to do, and are able to do regularly. Walking checks all the boxes! Many people underestimate the power of walking, but it has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to improve endurance, lose weight, and get fit. Using a treadmill makes it so you can walk whenever it is convenient for you! If you have little ones, walk during nap time!
For seniors, you can walk while watching the news or talking on the phone to loved ones. Even college students can walk after class in their apartments on a compact walking treadmill. This makes it easy to get the exercise you need to help you achieve your weight-loss goals. You’ll also want to examine your diet if weight loss is your goal, too.
Do Walking Treadmills Have Incline?
Most do. Most of the walking treadmills on our list incline except for the LifeSpan TR5000 and the WalkingPad R2. These are smaller walking treadmills that don’t feature incline, but our list includes treadmills with the necessary features and specs for everything from gentle walking to intense hiking! We’ve even included a treadmill on our list that has a 40% incline for walking and hiking.
How Many Calories Can I Burn Walking on a Treadmill?
That depends on how hard and long you work, but people can burn upwards of 400 calories per hour just from walking! A study from Nordictrack indicated that walking on an incline increased the number of calories burned up to 5x in the same amount of time as walking on a flat road!
Another way to increase your heart rate and calorie burn is to add speed walking intervals. These power walking sessions are not easy, but they’ll have you sweating in no time.
Where Can I Put a Walking Treadmill in My Home?
All walking treadmills should be stored in a clear area of doors, stairs, curtains, ceiling fans, and retractable shade/blind cords. Treadmills can shift slightly when in use and may impact walls nearby, so we recommend leaving a small gap between your treadmill and your wall. While folding treadmills are convenient, they need to be safely folded and locked when not in use to protect children or pets in the home.
Never place a walking treadmill in a high-traffic area where people frequently step under, over, or around it. A locked room away is always best, although many people don’t have this luxury. Remove the safety key after use and place it away from the treadmill to avoid any accidents.
You must also be careful when storing your treadmill in a garage. Some companies will void your treadmill’s warranty if it is not kept in a clean and dry area.
Can I Use A Walking Treadmill Upstairs?
Yes, but we don’t recommend regularly carrying your treadmill up or downstairs. If you plan to use a treadmill on an upstairs floor, assemble it there. Some door frames are not wide enough to allow a treadmill to be rolled in/out of a room.
Evaluate the weight of the treadmill and the structure of your floors to ensure you place your treadmill in an appropriate location. Even walking treadmills can be too large for a standard door frame.
