Vega creates protein powders and supplements made from plants. Vega was co-founded in 2001 by Brendan Brazier, who’s a vegan triathlete. As a certified B-Corp company, Vega includes quality, plant-based ingredients in their products to fuel people with good ingredients rather than artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and GMOs. Vega is the type of company that cares. They work to give back to the community with donations to food banks and hospitals, as well as strive to be better for the planet. For every order of their proteins and supplement powders, Vega will plant a tree!
What To Expect From Vega Protein Powders
Although I’m not a vegan personally, I love how Vega packs its products with significant amounts of protein from plants. With how many toxins are in packaged food products, it’s refreshing to have a company that chooses to keep certain things out. I know for me, I don’t need more added sugar in my diet, and instead could use more vitamins, minerals, omega 3’s, and probiotics.
Whether you’re vegan, or just looking for a healthier alternative to other protein powders and products, Vega protein powders are my top recommendation. Sure whey and casein proteins are great for building muscle, but if you’re lactose intolerant or sensitive to dairy they’re only going to make you feel worse. Vega includes ingredients such as pea protein, to help you feel good while fueling your body. The powders mix in water or whatever liquid you want and can be used when baking and cooking.
To help you find products that align with your goals, Vega has divided their products into three main categories: Sport Nutrition, Daily Nutrition, and Functional Wellness.
Vega Sport Nutrition
If you’re looking for supplements to help you push through your workouts, as well as recover from them, then this category is for you. The protein powders in this category are my go-to for ensuring I’m getting enough protein every day to maintain and build muscle.
Vega Sport Premium Protein
It is with this protein that I got my start using Vega’s products. Vega’s lineup of Sport Premium Protein is some of the best protein powders on the market, in our opinion. Like all of Vega’s products, it’s vegan, yet packed with pea protein, pumpkin seed protein, organic sunflower seed protein, and alfalfa protein. Each scoop or serving contains 30 grams of protein. Vega Sport Premium Protein has a complete amino acid profile and BCAAs to help your muscles repair after your workouts. Tart cherry is also on the list of ingredients which is beneficial when you’re sore.
If you’re like me, and whey protein doesn’t make you feel like you’re living your best life, then Vega Sport Premium Protein is one to consider. You’ll not only get a great amount of protein, but it has probiotics to promote good gut health. I find it mixes well in a shaker bottle with a little bit of settling, but it’s a small price to pay for healthy protein powder. And if you’re worried about sugar, don’t be. It only has 1 gram per serving. So you can enjoy whichever of the 6 flavors, carefree. Oh, and it’s keto-friendly if you’re looking to stay in ketosis.
Another protein that’s excellent and a bit thicker in consistency than the Premium is the Vega Sport Protein Powder. It has the same blend of proteins as the Premium Sport, as well as 30 grams of protein, tart cherry, 5 grams of BCAAs, and essential amino acids. It doesn’t have probiotics, but the Sport Protein Powder is slightly cheaper and comes in three different flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter.
You can’t go wrong with either type of these Sport Protein Powders from Vega. And if you’re looking for more supplements, check out the Vega Sport Premium Pre-Workout Energizer, and Vega Sport Recovery, for pre and post-workouts. The Vega Sport collection has everything you need to stay energized, fueled, and hydrated while exercising.

Vega Daily Nutrition
This category contains Vega Original Protein and smoothies and shakes that will supplement your diet from day to day. Here you’ll find smoothies and shakes packed with plants, plant-based protein, and ingredients to help you excel every day.
Vega Original Protein
Vega Original Protein is designed to take as a supplement to your diet when you need more protein. This is more of a standard protein powder, compared to the Sport Protein lineup. However, it has 0 grams of sugar! The carbohydrate count is a bit higher than the powders above at 14 grams per serving. We love that is sweetened with stevia and includes 3 grams of fiber while being packed with 25 grams of pea protein.
Designed to be creamy and available in vanilla and chocolate flavors, Vega Original Protein can be mixed with water or your beverage of choice. Vega recommends mixing it with a non-dairy beverage, but it’s totally up to you, how you enjoy it. As with all of Vega’s protein powders, they’re free of GMOs, as well as gluten-free. Plus, the rosemary extract serves as a natural preservative to keep the powder fresh.
Vega suggests that Original Protein Powder can be consumed any time of the day. With that amount of protein per serving, I think it’s a great way to help hit your protein goals every day. If you need some extra help getting in greens every day too, then Vega Protein & Greens is one to check out. It comes in a few more flavors than the Original Protein, and it’s packed with kale, alfalfa, broccoli, and spinach. This protein powder has 20 grams of pea protein per serving to help you stay fuller longer.
Vega Orginal Protein Specs:
- Serving Size: 2 Scoops
- Protein: 25 grams
- Fat: 3 grams (1g Saturated Fat)
- Carbs: 14 grams
- Flavors: Creamy Vanilla, and Creamy Chocolate
Vega Essentials Shake
How about a shake that doesn’t require a blender? Now, how about a shake that has vitamins, minerals, and 20 grams of protein with essential amino acids in every serving?
If all of this sounds good, then the Vega Essentials Shake is for you! It’s fairly thick like a shake, and the vanilla flavor is sweet so even though it has ingredients like kale, marine algae, spirulina, quinoa, spinach, broccoli, carrot, beet, tomato, blueberry, orange, and even shiitake mushroom, you can’t taste them. Thank god, because I hate mushrooms!
The Essentials Shake is a great way to nurture your body without having to worry about sugar. There’s only 1 gram in a serving. And as I said, the flavor is sweet so it doesn’t seem like you’re eating plants.
Another shake that’s nutrient-packed, is Vega One All-In-One Shake. It comes in a few more flavors than the essentials shake, while still offering 20 grams of pea, sunflower seed, and pumpkin seed proteins. This shake offers 12 essential vitamins and 21% of your recommended daily fiber intake.
Finally, the Vega Real Food Smoothie might be my favorite among these, although the shakes above are a close second. Even though I’m a huge chocolate fan, I can’t decide if I like the chocolate peanut butter blast, or tropical green paradise flavor better. I know, tropical green paradise sounds kind of weird as a protein powder flavor, but I’m a fan. It’s not as thick as your typical smoothie when it’s just mixed with water, but it’s refreshing and packed with real foods and 20 grams of protein!
Vega Essentials Shake Specs:
- Serving Size: 1 Scoop
- Protein: 20 grams
- Fat: 4 grams (1g Saturated Fat)
- Carbs: 7 grams
- Flavors: Vanilla, Mocha, and Chocolate
Vega Functional Wellness
This category has specific supplements that are also meant to be blended up to aid you in certain areas of your diet that you’re hoping to support, like energy and gut health. These supplement powders feature a nice amount of protein in each serving, too.
Vega Hello Wellness Spring In Your Step
Before you grab that second cup of coffee, try Vega Spring In Your Step. This supplement powder has 100 mg of caffeine and 15 grams of protein. It’s so good, you could replace your coffee with it entirely. It mixes in water or your beverage of choice. The vanilla cappuccino flavor has 0 grams of sugar, so it’s definitely healthier than a cappuccino from Starbucks! It only has 110 calories, too. It’s best mixed in a cold liquid, but you could add it to a hot beverage.
Other options among Spring In Your Step, are the Hello Wellness You’ve Got Guts, and It’s A No Brainer. You’ve Got Guts has prebiotics and probiotics to support your gut health. For every serving, you’ll get 5 grams of prebiotic fiber and 2 billion colony-forming units of probiotics. As Hippocrates said himself, “all disease begins in the gut”. So, make sure yours is healthy with You’ve Got Guts. Oh yeah, and it’s got 15 grams of protein.
Hello Wellness It’s A No Brainer is for, you guessed it, the brain. If you’re looking for a good vegan source of omega-3, then I’d look into this supplement powder. It comes in raspberry blackberry flavor and has vitamin c for your immune system as well as 15 grams of protein to aid in reaching your daily protein goals.
