As I looked around TRG’s studio, I noticed how much space each running treadmill took up. Most days, I have to budget extra time for testing so I can move treadmills around, which can be a pain. Fortunately, with the TM029, I didn’t have to worry. I could roll this thing all around our studio all day without issues.

Wellfit designed this little treadmill to let you run and walk just about anywhere. You can train with onboard programs and Bluetooth features in your living room, bedroom, and anywhere else. It’s a little hard to carry upstairs by yourself, but if you wanted to take it to an upstairs apartment, just ask a friend for help.

The Wellfit TM029 is a little treadmill with a lot to prove. Keep reading to find the results of my treadmill assessment.

As more and more brands move toward a subscription service, it’s always refreshing to test a treadmill that doesn’t come with a monthly subscription. The Wellfit TM029 has 12 preset programs, and it pairs with third-party apps.

For under $1000, you can have this compact running treadmill that pairs with several training options. The console has all the features you need for any workout you would like to do. The motor can also run for up to two hours, so you can even run long runs on this treadmill. There are a few limitations to be aware of because of its compact size, though.

I enjoyed running on this treadmill, but you need to hear the full story before you decide if this treadmill is the right fit for your training. Scroll down for the in-depth results of my test procedures and workout experience.

Over the years, we refined our testing process to be more scientific and more rigorous. We are passionate about matching you with the right treadmill. To ensure we get things right, we put every treadmill to the same tests. Then, we continue to use the treadmills, updating these reviews with our ongoing findings.

Some of the tests we conduct include evaluating the incline and speed accuracy, timing the motor responsiveness, and measuring the noise production at various settings. We have tons of data, allowing us to find which treadmills truly shine. After compiling all this data, we know everything there is to know about a treadmill’s strengths and weaknesses.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill Review - hero

When the TM029 is 63” L x 27.6” W x 50” H.

The step-up height to the deck is about 6”, and when the deck is fully inclined, it is 11”. You will need a 7.5’ ceiling for this treadmill if you are a 6’ runner. That would give you enough space to incline the treadmill and have a little extra buffer for vertical motion created by running.

I can move the TM029 around easily. The wheels roll well, and the treadmill is only 120 lbs. Wellfit says you only need to be able to lift about 33 lbs to lift the TM029, since you are only lifting the back of the deck. I find this to be pretty accurate, though I have not been able to directly measure the force required to lift the deck.

Wellfit TM029 - action moving treadmill

The wheels engage quickly, which is something I really appreciate

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Sometimes, it seems like the more you pay for a treadmill, the less you get. I get endless comments about customers who are frustrated with their fancy touchscreen treadmill that doesn’t have a single built-in training program. Well, the TM029 has twelve preset onboard programs in addition to manual mode.

The screen shows a preview of these programs, so you have an idea before you start them of what you are getting into. You can’t adjust the intensity of the programs, so it takes a little trial and error to figure out which ones are appropriate for your fitness level.

Apps

For additional training, you can pair the Wellfit treadmill with FTMS-compatible training apps. The most compatible app is, of course, the Wellfit app. This app allows you to track your training on the TM029.

The Wellfit app also provides structured treadmill workouts and scenic video classes. There’s even a button that allows you to say what kind of workout you are looking for, and then the app will make recommendations. While this feature is nice to have, I found myself scrolling through the app and browsing workouts manually most of the time.

I don’t have VR glasses to test it, but you should be able to get a 3D VR experience with the outdoor classes.

Wellfit TM029 app

My favorite category on the Wellfit app was the smart runs with their colorful visuals.

I was most excited to pair the TM029 with apps like Zwift and Peloton. It connected easily to both of these apps and showed my speed and distance on my phone screen. I really enjoy training on both of these platforms, so being able to get my metrics from the TM029 is super helpful.

Wellfit TM029 - app console

No subscription service is required to use the TM029. The Wellfit app is free, and the other apps (and their subscriptions) are completely optional.

Console

The Wellfit TM029 doesn’t have a traditional console. It’s a unique but really nice design. The screen part can be adjusted to be more upright or flat. If you want to set a larger object, like a laptop, on the console, you can just fold the screen flat to create a larger shelf.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill - action walking

You get two removable sticky pads with the TM029 that help keep your devices in place.

I used one of the sticky pads to fix my phone to the console, and I had no problems with it. My phone stayed put in both landscape and portrait modes, even while I was running.

Wellfit TM029 display console

As for the screen, it’s simple but engaging. I like how colorful it is.

You can see all your necessary metrics on the screen, including your speed, incline level, total time, distance, and even your step count. I wish you could see more of these numbers at once, but the treadmill scans through them at a decent pace.

To support the compatible training apps and any entertainment you might want to watch, the TM029 also has Bluetooth speakers. The quality is pretty nice for this price point. It’s not as clear as the speakers on a NordicTrack or Peloton treadmill, but I had no problem hearing the audio while I was training.

For additional storage, there are two cup holders. I store an Allen wrench in one of them, so I always have it on hand to lock and unlock the treadmill’s folding mechanism. Though the console shakes some while you are running, I haven’t had any problems with anything falling out.

Another feature on the TM029 is the heart rate pulse grips. While Bluetooth does not appear to allow you to connect a heart rate monitor, you can check in with these grips on the handles.

Wellfit TM029 grip

Pulse grips aren’t the most accurate for checking your heart rate, but they are a nice feature to have.

Overall, I’m happy with the number of features the TM029 provides. The design feels very thoughtful, and it makes training a breeze.

Build Quality

I put the TM029 together myself. There aren’t too many steps, and I had it assembled without help in about an hour. Honestly, it would have been faster if I had gotten some help taking everything out of the box, but at least my efforts show that doing it by yourself (even if you are a rather small person) is doable.

Frame

The deck is pretty solidly built. It’s the best part of the treadmill, in my opinion. It has a nice steel alloy frame and is reinforced well.

Most of the assembly involves attaching cosmetic parts. These attach with screws instead of bolts. I prefer the bolts that most treadmills use, but the TM029’s plastic components seem pretty secure.

The uprights are steel, but they aren’t too thick. I do not recommend using the treadmill arms to support yourself, as they aren’t that sturdy. They provide guidance and balance for staying centered on the treadmill deck, though.

Wellfit TM029 uprights

Don’t place your full weight on the treadmill uprights and arms; they aren’t designed for it.

The TM029 has a 500-lb weight capacity. We don’t have a way to test this in our studio, unfortunately. Based on our testing, we recommend a weight limit of 265 lbs for running. Lower forces are generated during walking, allowing you to exceed our weight recommendation.

Wellfit TM029 shock

Factors that impact a treadmill’s weight capacity include the frame’s design, the deck thickness, and motor power.

Wellfit TM029 feet

I was also impressed by the leveling feet on the TM029. They are large, providing the deck with a lot of support.

Motor

Another strength of the TM029 is its motor. The motor is rated as a 4.5 HP motor, which is the kind of power we look for in a running treadmill. There’s a lot more to motor quality than just the horsepower rating, but it’s a good starting point.

Wellfit TM029 motor hood

The TM029’s 4.5 HP motor allows you to run for up to two hours.

Wellfit recommends letting the motor rest for at least 10 minutes for every 2 hours of use. Because this is not a commercial machine, I think 2 hours of use per day, especially if you are running, is probably a good limit. However, if you give the motor that rest time, you should be good to go again if desired. Just remember to turn the treadmill off when it’s not in use.

Wellfit TM029 - action running

The TM029’s speed range is 0 to 10 miles per hour.

Incline training on the TM029 is great. It has 10 levels of incline. The treadmill is flat when set to level 0. I measured level 10 to be 10.7% incline. This range is really nice for such a compact treadmill, and I felt stable while using it while walking and running.

As for responsiveness, this motor is on the slower side. It adjusts speed and incline at a steadier pace, which makes the treadmill feel safer and more stable. It’s not as ideal for HIIT workouts, but I think they are still doable.

I measured the noise level at 3 mph and 10 mph. The results were 51 dB and 65.6 dB, respectively. Then, when I inclined the treadmill while it was running at 3 miles per hour, the noise level was 53.5 dB.

Compared to other treadmills we have tested, the TM029 is fairly quiet and produces noise that’s comparable to a dryer.

Deck

We measured the belt and got 19” x 53”, so just keep in mind that the running surface is a little more compact than the average residential or commercial fitness treadmill (20 to 22” wide and 60” long).

Wellfit TM029 - action running deck

Most runners should be able to run up to 6 miles per hour comfortably, but faster speeds may require you to shorten your stride.

I didn’t have any trouble running on the TM029. Most of my runs were at a maximum speed of 7 miles per hour, though. I think many runners might have a harder time hitting the top speed without running out of room.

Wellfit TM029 Treadmill - action walking

The TM029 is more cushioned than running on the road but firm compared to treadmills from Horizon and NordicTrack.

The deck is ¾” of an inch thick. This thickness is pretty typical for a residential treadmill. It’s comparable to what we see in Sole and NordicTrack treadmills, for instance. A thicker deck is more durable, as it increases the load a treadmill can bear and reduces the likelihood of the deck cracking.

As I mentioned before, the deck has a 6” step-up height, so it’s pretty low profile. There are footrails on either side of the deck. These footrails have little plastic extenders that feel very secure, much to my surprise. You can stand on them when needed.

Wellfit TM029 deck

The plastic footrail supports are very sturdy and attach to the deck with screws.

Warranty

Wellfit gives you a 3-year warranty on the frame. This is much shorter than the standard 10-year warranty we encounter on more expensive treadmills, but it’s longer than the 1-year warranty on cheap machines. I would like it if the warranty were a little longer, but it’s not far off what I expect at this price point.

The parts warranty (including the motor) is rather short. Parts are only covered for 180 days, while most treadmills have a 1-year parts warranty.

Should You Buy the Wellfit TM029 Treadmill

The Wellfit TM029 is a lightweight treadmill that supports up to two hours of walking or jogging at a time. It is easy to move around and wouldn’t be a bad choice for a walker or runner who needs a small treadmill for an apartment. It’s more durable than most budget treadmills, too, ensuring you can do a substantial amount of training.

My favorite features on the TM029 are the onboard training programs and Bluetooth connectivity. The Wellfit app is free and connects to the treadmill so you can record your training and follow along with outdoor classes. You can also connect the treadmill to apps like Zwift and Peloton.

The Wellfit TM029 is more compact, so it may not be the best option for advanced runners who need a longer deck and a higher speed limit. Yet, for beginner to intermediate exercisers, it’s a great space-saving option!
