Lifespan TR800-DT3 is an under desk treadmill that allows users to walk while at their standing desk. This treadmill does not include an attached desk, so users can use their own or choose from one of LifeSpan’s many desk options. The TR800 console sits on your desk to control the speed of the treadmill. The TR800 has a compact footprint of 60.5″ x 26″ and walking belt size of 45″ x 18”. The 2.0 horsepower motor is quiet and uses LifeSpan’s Intelli-Step technology which turns off the treadmill when you step off it. The treadmill is also Bluetooth enabled so you can sync your workout activity on the LifeSpan Active Track fitness app. Since sitting at a desk for hours on end introduces a host of postural and inactivity issues, the TR800 allows you to continue to move and walk throughout your workday.

In-depth Review of TR800 DT3 Treadmill

Construction

LifeSpan TR800 DT3 Desk Over Console

Frame

The Lifespan TR800-DT3 is the treadmill only and does not include a desk. The TR800 comes fully assembled. Just open the box and slide the treadmill under your standing desk! This is LifeSpan’s most affordable under desk treadmill and therefore one of the most popular. It is easy to use and due to its compact size, will work in most office environments. If you have a small home office, the TR800 is a great option. The desk has a low step up height of 3.75” to the belt and 4.25” to the side rails. (You need to step on the side rails to then step on the belt.) The low profile design makes it ideal for anyone with limited mobility since the step up height is very low. The TR800 will only support users up to 200 pounds, so be aware of the weight limit when considering this treadmill.

The 2.0 HP motor works quietly in the background and offers a speed range of 0.4 – 4.0 mph. The treadmill has been designed to be used in private or shared offices so the motor is sleek and quiet. LifeSpan added belt markings to the belt so users can see if it is moving. The most noticeable noise is from the belt as it slides along the deck. The motor itself is quite subtle. Foot noise is determined by the user’s shoes and weight.

There is no incline or decline on the TR800 and this treadmill is not designed to be used separately from a desk set up. The TR800 does not have handrails or any arm support, so we only recommend using this when standing at a desk for stability. Some under desk treadmills do offer incline, but this is actually not advised when working at a desk. The incline can negatively impact your posture and cause back pain. The TR800 has a flat deck surface for a comfortable walking gait.

Deck

Cushioning/Feel

There are six shock absorbers under the deck to add joint support and mitigate foot impact while walking. Many office users may wear business shoes with limited cushioning while at work and so the TR800 has added a bit more cushioning for comfort. We also recommend tucking a pair of athletic shoes next to the treadmill if you plan to walk extensively throughout the day.

Length/Width

LifeSpan TR800 DT3 Under Desk Treadmill Size
The TR800 footprint is 60.5″ L x 26″ W x 6.5″ H. The actual walking belt measures 18” wide and 45” long, which is relatively compact. This is a good choice for smaller users or those who plan to walk casually. It may not provide enough room for a full stride or taller users. A low-profile motor hood on the front of the treadmill keeps the motor quiet and protected so it doesn’t impede your stride.

Belt and Side Rails

The treadmill has a 2.0 HP motor which will support walking up to 3 hours per day. There is also a ¾ ” thick walking belt, with black, non-slip side rails that provide a nice foothold when getting on or off the treadmill. The side rails are slightly higher than the belt which keeps your feet from sliding off while walking.

Motor

  • 2.0 HP motor
    • The 2.0 HP motor is rather small and has limited power. However, when used as directed — by users under 200 pounds for up to 3 hours per day — the motor is sufficient and quiet. A max speed of 2mph is perfect when working at a desk, any faster and it’s hard to type or read. But the TR800 will go up to 4mph if needed. We only recommend using the 4mph when passively listening to a conference call, but not when attempting to type or write at the desk. Most under desk treadmills will only go up to 2mph, so it’s nice to have the option of higher speeds when needed.

Console/Controls

LifeSpan TR800 DT3 Under Desk Treadmill Console

Console Features

  • LifeSpan TR800-DT3 console is designed to sit on your desk for easy access. It weighs 3 pounds and has a safety key attached to the front end that is required for the console to operate. If the safety key is removed, the treadmill automatically stops. This allows users to clip the key to their clothing in case they step away or have an issue, the treadmill will stop.
  • A main On/Start button begins the treadmill and there are several settings you can toggle through including time, calories, distance, speed, and weight. Up/Down buttons allow users to move through the settings to see calorie counts and steps, etc. The console will hold the readout of whatever metric you select.
  • The LifeSpan TR800 includes onboard Intelli-Step technology. Even if you step on and off the treadmill throughout the day, the Intelli-Step feature will keep track of your total steps which sync with the LifeSpan app.
  • The Intelli-Guard technology present ensures a safe work environment and makes sure the treadmill operates only when you are actively walking on it.
  • The TR800 is Bluetooth enabled so you can sync your workout activity and track your progress over time with the LifeSpan Active Track fitness app.

Controls

  • The red LED displays which metric is being displayed on the digital readout. You can select walking belt speed, distance traveled, calories burned, time elapsed and step count.
  • Various adjustments allow you to turn control beeps on or off; adjust maximum walking speed, or display miles per hour or kilometers per hour

Functionality

Performance

The TR800 is LifeSpan’s smallest under desk treadmill rated for use up to 3 hours per day. This compact treadmill has a walking surface that is just 18” wide and 45” long. For those looking for an affordable, compact under desk treadmill, this is perfect. If you need a bit more space and a weight capacity over 200 pounds, we recommend looking at the TR1200 or TR5000. The TR800 is quiet and has many of the same features found on the upgraded models including the Intelli-Guard and Intelli-Step features for safety. Intelli-Guard will pause the movement of the tread belt when you step off it and Intelli-Step keeps track of your steps throughout the day.

The TR800 does not include a standing desk, so you must pair it with your own or select from one of LifeSpan’s many desk options. The low step up height of 4.25” enables it to fit nicely in most offices. Studies have documented many advantages of walking as opposed to sitting and since most office workers spend large amounts of time at their desk, an under desk treadmill is a great way to counteract any ill effects from sitting and inactivity. Sitting can exacerbate existing postural deviations that may lead to back and neck pain, tight hip flexors and a forward thrust to the chin. Walking naturally alleviates these issues by stimulating a healthy walking posture that strengthens the legs and core and keeps the head upright rather than leaning forward.

Storage

The TR800 only weighs 96 pounds, which is surprisingly lightweight for a treadmill. There are also two front mounted transport wheels that make it easy to gently lift and roll for proper under-desk positioning. The treadmill can be moved when needed or even tucked into a closet or behind a couch when not in use. The treadmill also comes fully assembled, so when it arrives you can just tuck it under your desk and go!

Desk Options:

The TR800 DT3 does not include a desk. This is a walking treadmill that is designed to slide under your existing standing desk. This under desk treadmill includes a DT3 console which sits on your existing desk. The treadmill will not work with a seated desk, so make sure you select a desk option that allows you to stand upright on the treadmill and reach the top of the desk without leaning over. LifeSpan includes several desk options if you want to get a tread/desk combination.

DT5 Manual Desk:

The DT5 is a great standing desk if you don’t plan on making frequent height adjustments. This sturdy desk includes padded armrests and a conveniently located console that doesn’t occupy any of the desk space.

  • Manual-height adjustment
  • Two-stage telescoping legs
  • Internal cable management
  • Bluetooth enabled
  • 38” & 48” desktop width options
  • Multiple desktop color options

DT7 Electric Desk:

The DT7 is the ideal desk for multi-user environments including communal and public areas. The desk includes the same padded armrests and integrated control console as the DT5 plus the addition of electric-height adjustment. Height adjustment buttons are conveniently located within the console and include memory support for two users.

  • Electric-height adjustment
  • Two-stage telescoping legs
  • Internal cable management
  • Bluetooth enabled
  • 38”, 48”, 60” & 72” desktop options
  • Multiple desktop color options

LifeSpan TR800 Under Desk Treadmill Conclusion:

The TR800 is a compact walking treadmill designed for home or office use for up to 3 hours per day. This lightweight treadmill only weighs 96 pounds and is easy to move, so you can tuck it away or move it under different desks if needed. The low step up height is also an advantage. This is an affordable way to increase your activity level while working. LifeSpan under desk treadmills are used world-wide by government agencies, universities, health centers, and businesses who have adopted an active-office lifestyle. Researchers and health professionals have long touted the many health benefits of walking as opposed to sitting. When you stand and walk, your body naturally adjusts to an upright, elongated position where your neck and spine hover over the hips rather than jutt forward in front of a computer. Walking while working also keeps the blood moving through your legs and feet, which reduces the chances of blood pooling or DVT issues. For office workers who spend a lot of time in front of a computer, an under desk treadmill is a valuable feature. The TR800 is designed to be quiet, work under most standing desks, and use a console that is easy to navigate. LifeSpan’s Intelli-Guard feature also stops the treadmill belt whenever you step off it. Like most of the LifeSpan office treadmills, the TR800’s 6-compression shocks absorb impact while walking and the treadmill comes fully assembled out of the box so that you can use it immediately. It also features an impressive lifetime frame warranty, with a 3-year warranty on the motor, 2-years on parts, and 1-year on labor. The LifeSpan TR800 DT3 is an affordable and compact under desk treadmill and a great way to add more activity to your workday.
