I have no idea what to call this exercise bike. Is it the MYX II? The Bodi Bike? I have no idea. However, I have learned quite a lot about this bike since we have been using it for the last few years. It’s a Peloton alternative that stands out with its blue accents. Every single other bike we review seems to be black with a red accent color. I am happy this bike mixes it up.

The MYX II comes in three packages; you know, we had to go with the one with the built-in screen. We tested the subscription content, which is essential for the best experience on this indoor cycle. If you want trainer-led content on and off the bike, MYX is a solid option.

Below, we detail why you should consider the MYX II (aka the Bodi Bike) over other smart studio cycles. Scroll down for the scoop.

The MYX II Bodi Bike is for indoor cyclists who want guidance in their workouts. The Bodi platform is your app-based hub for wellness. With fitness classes and nutrition advice, Bodi helps you shape your daily life to match your goals. Because the MYX II is best with the paired subscription service, I recommend it for exercisers who are ready to go all in.

Two features set the MYX II apart from most bikes we test: the resistance and the color options. Our studio is cluttered with black and red exercise bikes. That monotony makes the MYX II a relief with its black or white color options, both with blue accents. If you want a bike that blends more easily into your space, maybe it is this one.

The second feature is the friction resistance. Almost every other brand has adopted magnetic resistance, but friction resistance has advantages. If you are a strong cyclist, this bike might be for you, especially if you find the resistance too weak on competitor bikes.

Keep reading for more information on the MYXII exercise bike.

MYX II Exercise Bike Video Review

We May Be Treadmill Review Guru, But We Cycle Just As Much

Here at Treadmill Review Guru, we have the unique ability to test several bikes on the market almost simultaneously—if only we could clone ourselves to ride all of them at once. When reviewing the new MYX II bike, we hopped on the original MYX bike so we could compare the new changes and see the upgrades.

Along with the older bike, we pulled out both Peloton bikes: the Peloton Bike and Peloton Bike+, the NordicTrack S22i studio bike, the Velocore, and the Echelon Connect Bike EX-5s. By jumping on each of these bikes and comparing how they feel and their different subscription content, we can bring you this in-depth MYX II Exercise Bike Review.

Editor’s Note, 11/12/2024: The MYX II/Bodi Bike’s training service has evolved a lot since we started testing it. We updated this review to reflect its current digital platform.

Dimensions/Storability

The MYX II measures 54” x 21” x 47” and weighs 150 lbs. It has transport wheels to make it easier to move around. With any exercise bike with a touchscreen, you should be careful not to knock the screen into a wall or doorframe. It has four leveling feet to ensure the bike is stable even if your floors are uneven.

Onboard Workouts & Apps

Pairing the MYX II with the Bodi subscription service is integral to the overall quality of the experience. Without the subscription, there aren’t many options—the bike is usable, but that’s about it.

The Bodi subscription includes all the cycling classes you need to make your routine worthwhile. These classes are trainer-led with music, though the music isn’t as integrated as it is in Peloton. The vibe of the class feels very 90s to 2000s. The workouts and instructors are very polished and body-centric.

The classes use heart rate zones to establish your intensity because the bike has friction resistance instead of digital magnetic resistance. While some cyclists may not like not having an exact “level” or “power” rating to guide their workout, heart rate zone training is a viable alternative that I enjoy.

A word of caution: Bodi classes and the platform greatly focus on weight loss and achieving a certain body type. While many exercisers may find their goals in line with this vibe, it’s definitely not for everyone. I prefer that my workouts focus on performance, getting stronger, and enjoying being active. That’s not to say Bodi lacks these goals; they just aren’t the primary focus.

With a Bodi membership, you get more than just cycling classes. There are many off-bike cardio classes, strength classes, and nutritional information. The app, which you can download to your phone or tablet, has workout tracking and nutrition and hydration tracking. It can be a one-stop shop if you want it to be!

Although the MYX II Bike no longer supports the OpenFit app, there is plenty of content on Bodi. You won’t want to miss it!

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Content

A cycling workout on the MYX II Exercise Bike.

In addition to trainer-led classes, you can take scenic rides on the Bodi Bike. These are a nice alternative for your more low-key training days.

Console

As you can see, the resistance knob is behind the handles, is clearly labeled, and it also doubles as the brake when you push it down. There aren’t any controls on the handles because everything else is accessed through the touchscreen.

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Screen and Handlebars

The entire console on the MYX II exercise bike is the large 21.5” touchscreen and the resistance knob.

The screen is very easy to see and reach. I am just over 5 feet tall and can reach it easily with my short arms. The MYX II offers a fourth adjustment point many other bikes don’t provide. You can adjust the handles forward and back on the MYX II, which makes the screen easy to reach for shorter people like myself and can give you more room if you are taller.

This adjustment point makes the screen easier to reach and allows for a better fit on the bike. Because of my short height, I have to have the seat all the way forward on the NordicTrack S22i and Bowflex Velocore bikes in order to reach the screens.

That’s where Beachbody’s MYX II bike really impressed me because I could continue pedaling and reach everything on the screen. Another great aspect is that the screen rotates 360 degrees. Once we tried it, we realized it only rotates 180 degrees in both directions, but this makes it movable to 360 degrees and can also be tilted up and down. This added feature makes it very convenient to use while taking mat classes.

The speakers are located on the back of the screen, and I really liked that you can balance the volume level to feature more of the trainer’s voice or more of the music. You can also mute the instructor and just listen to the music during class, or vice versa.

Charging your phone or the included heart rate monitor is also easy because the USB port is located on the back of the screen.

Build Quality

The MYXFitness website describes the MYX II as a “premium Star Trac professional-grade bike,” and that is what it feels like to us.

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Woman Pedaling

Our team here at Treadmill Review Guru really appreciates the quality and construction of the Beachbody bike.

Frame

The MYX II bike has a steel frame, two stabilizers, and four leveling feet to keep the bike steady and firmly planted on the ground.

We all enjoy the feel of this bike, as we did with the original MYX. It is straightforward, easy to use, and feels very sturdy and solid. With the touchscreen, it’s heavier at 150 lbs, but its overall footprint is smaller than that of other bikes like the Peloton Bike and Peloton Bike+.

One aspect we like about the MYX II is that it has four adjustment points. As I mentioned above, the handles move forward and back and also up and down. The seat can also be adjusted up and down and forward and back.

These adjustment points allow for a wide range of reach and leg span, accommodating a wide variety of users.

The reach is the distance between the nose of the saddle and the handles, and when I measured it, it ranged from about 12” to 23.5”, which is a really large range.

Leg span is measured by the distance between the top of the saddle and the top of the lowest pedal, and it ranges from 28” to 41”. Since leg span is your inseam, this is a good way to determine if a bike will work for you.

Flywheel

The MYX II bike has a heavy flywheel that weighs 41 lbs.

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Flywheel

The front flywheel is heavy enough to make the bike feel stable and allows you to stand up out of the saddle.

The Beachbody bike uses friction resistance, which cannot be measured. So, metrics like watts, which show your effort output, and the resistance level aren’t displayed on the screen when you ride.

However, when you turn the resistance knob, the resistance is added or taken off as soon as you change it. With magnetic resistance, there is a delay from when you add it to when you feel it while pedaling. I compared the MYX II to use magnetic resistance for all the other exercise bikes besides the original MYX.

Magnetic resistance tends to be more expensive, has a smoother pedal stroke, and is silent. The friction resistance on the MYX II, however, has a really smooth feel because the flywheel is heavier and peripherally weighted, and the inertia-enhanced design allows for fluid motion throughout the entire pedal stroke.

Drive System

The pedals on the BeachBody bike are nice because they have two options. You can clip in your SPD cleats or flip the pedals over and use regular athletic shoes in the toe cages.

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Pedals

Our team had no problem using both pedal options.

We did notice that all of our different-sized feet fit better in the toe cages on the MYX II than on the Peloton Bike+, which don’t seem deep enough to extend over the balls of our feet.

The MYX II’s Q-factor, which is the distance between the pedals, is also within an optimal range of 165 mm to keep your knees in proper alignment. It also uses a 6-groove Poly-V belt drive system, which keeps the bike quiet and the ride smooth.

Handlebars

Overall, the handlebars are really sturdy and a nice width, and the two large water bottle holders are conveniently placed, large, strong, and stable. My 22-oz water bottle and phone fit in them well. This is something that we all appreciated, especially compared to the flimsy and harder-to-reach cupholders on the Peloton bikes and the Bowflex Velocore bike.

I did miss an extra horizontal bar on the handlebar, however. I like having more grip options on the handles, like when I ride the Velocore from Bowflex.

MYX FItness Bodi Bike Holding Handles

Everything is within reach of the handles.

Another aspect that we didn’t care for was the coating on the handlebars. It feels a little sticky and tacky, especially when you’re sweating. The handles also feel firm, but covering them with a towel helps eliminate both of these issues.

MYX II Plus

If you purchase the MYX II Plus option, you get a stabilizer mat, exercise mat, resistance band, foam roller, and 6-piece weight set with a kettlebell that you can pick which size weights work for you. This all comes with the MYX II bike, and all of these items are of great quality and make the BeachBody bike feel more like a complete home gym than just an exercise bike.

Should You Buy the MYX II Exercise Bike?

The MYX II, or the BeachBody bike, is a solid, sturdy bike in a compact design. It rivals other exercise bikes with attached touchscreens in quality and offers two subscription fitness platforms, which is the first exercise bike to do so.

Our team enjoyed the upgraded features of the original MYX bike, such as the speed sensor that shows your cadence, speed, and distance.

We’ve had the original MYX bike for years now, and it has remained reliable and durable. Since the main upgrades from the first bike to the MYX II are mainly in the subscription content rather than the bike itself, we feel like this bike should hold up well, just like the original.

When compared against the Peloton Bike, Peloton Bike+, NordicTrack S22i, Velocore from Bowflex, and Echelon Connect EX-5S, the BeachBody bike rivals them all. Although the classes don’t feature a leaderboard, and the bike doesn’t incline or tilt side to side, it’s a comfortable, straightforward exercise bike that utilizes heart rate training.

If you’re looking for a home exercise bike with subscription content that can also double as a complete home gym when you purchase the plus option, the MYX II is a solid contender.

MYX II Q&A / FAQ

Is Peloton or MYX better?

The Myx has a unique blue (with black or white) colorway and friction resistance. It is a better choice for very strong cyclists and anyone with a primary goal of weight loss. The Bodi app has more social and nutritional features than Peloton.

Peloton is best for indoor cyclists who want quiet magnetic resistance, live classes, and streaming options. The Peloton Bike and Bike+ show more onscreen metrics for cyclists interested in tracking their cycling performance.

Can you use the MYX Bike without a subscription?

Yes, you can use the MYX bike without a subscription. Its friction resistance means you don’t have to rely on the screen to adjust your cycling intensity.

How much is the monthly subscription to the MYX II Bike’s app?

The MYX II uses the Bodi training platform. It costs $35 per month, or you can sign up for a 3-month or 12-month subscription for a discounted price. It comes out to about $30 or $15 per month, respectively.
